I have bought an ironMax after all.
Scored a mint lightly used model that sat in someone's garage most of time.
It seems my previous experience with T-max handlebar related to 500cc model, not the newer 530cc models.
I can fit my knees even better if I remove that "bum bumper" from the seat and stretch my legs like I love (as I also have a big American cruiser bike).
Now off to buy J.Costa and some groovy handlebar mirrors! (the stock ones make it look like ant whiskers)
It feels awesome when you enjoy the views and sweeps vs concentrating on minding your gearbox positions. I also like never detaching motor from the road, much more feel in the curves and the road.

In reply to <a href="https://bikereview.com.au/2016-yamaha-tmax-530-iron-max/#comment-5122">Nick</a>.

Hey Nick, the TMax 530 is noticeably wider than the smaller capacity 250cc options, so it would feel bulkier in that regard. With that said, it's still nice and low to the ground and I never had an issue getting a foot down securely, while putting both feet down was easy but that width across the seat was noticeable, without being a problem.

You can see how in the picture Yamaha have designed quite an angular seat towards the front of the bike, which is to aid in getting your feet down as you come to a stop. My wife who rides a 250cc scooter daily to work, also rode the TMax 530 and had no issues, and is a little shorter than me.

Hi Kris, enjoyed your write up, it was very thorough, I am serious about buying a TMax but the seat height concerns me, did you have any issues with regard to planting your feet when stopping? Thanks Nick.

Hey turboTown, it can be a bit disappointing when something you really like just doesn't work for you personally, ergonomics-wise. It sounds like you found a good solution though!

If you're looking for more easy-going handling you're probably best looking at the nakedbike offerings, as the more upright seating position, and wide and upright 'bars lend themselves to this characteristic. Particularly around town this is an advantage, and can add to the fun of riding. Is there anything in particular you're considering?

I've got a similar thing, an upgraded Kymco Downtown 300i with Malossi exhaust, J.Costa helical variator and a Sport Air filter. The thing FLIES off the lights, like 3 sec to 80Kmh and maybe 4.5 to a 100. I tried T-max but with my heights unfortunately I could not fit my knees under its handlebar when turning. Downtown's handlebar sits taller and accommodates me. I would be lucky if I could fit in a T-Max. The 500cc Exciting also can't fit my knees neither. Seems I am stuck with what I have as I don't like Burgman's styling. I am figuring out what motorcycle to get but compared to easy handling it is going to be a bit of drama if I pick a wrong one.

Hey Richard, glad to be of help!
The TMax really is an awesome piece of machinery and just does everything so well. Styling is great too and it's easy to surprise people on bigger bikes with the performance.

Hi Kris Hodgson,
I love your feedback about the Tmax.
I had an old Tmax500 a couple of years ago, and fell in love with the handling and ride.
Last year I bought the new Tmax530 Iron Max.
One word - awesome, after riding many other bigger bikes (and owned) this is for me the bike to ride.
Fitted Akrapovic and top box and dark screen.
Feedback from other people is also very good, they cannot believe it is a scooter.

Regards,
Richard Visser
