It was the same over here in Australia. 250 two-strokes sports machines got banned for new riders, crazy to think that someone could go and get their learners permit then take off on a 250 GP bike for the road!

What a beauty! The Elsies (250 and 350 LC) were awesome in the 80s, rapid, stylish and affordable. Pom regulations back then allowed anyone to ride a bike up to 250cc without passing/taking a driving test, indefinitely. The 250 LC sold like hot cakes and there were many stories of inexperienced riders hurting themselves badly by either riding too fast or getting caught out when they hit the narrow but hefty power band. The 350LC was much rarer and known to be dead quick - but less attractive as buyers would gravitate to 500cc+ which gave you a more user-friendly day to day ride.

That was an interesting read. I didn’t originally think that the Rd350LC was such a cult bike, until I built my fathers bike. I was born in “82”. I recently finished a 1982 RD350LC. Im not a purist and build a retro version. I went crazy and put a 397cc race ported billet banshee engine in it. I wish crazy would explain it. My dad is 65 and loves it. ZXR400 forks, RGV250 swing arm RS250 wheels. It came up really good. If you are still going to stay with the factor forks they make billet braces. It helps.

Looks fantastic - well done! The Yamaha RD's were so popular back in the 80's and as the article states were a sensational bike to ride. I ended up getting a Suzuki RG 250 for my first bike. I can still smell the exhaust fumes thirty years after I sold it. : )
