The FIM Speedway Sidecar 1000cc World Cup will roar to life at Gillman Speedway in South Australia this weekend, with international and Australian stars prepped and ready to take to the track, in front of thousands of spectators.

After four years of planning and negotiations, learning about international regulations, and putting together the finishing touches, Gillman Speedway Stadium will welcome the masses starting this afternoon, with the event bringing together, racing, music, international rivalries and more.

Gillman Speedway Stadium Easter

Motorcycling Australia’s CEO David Cottee, today wished the Australian competitors all the best, and shared that spectators are in for a weekend of racing action at Gillman Speedway Stadium.

“With the British, the New Zealanders and the Americans all lining up against our Aussies, fans are in for a real treat for the Speedway Sidecar World Cup at Gillman this weekend, and we know how competitive our Australian team is,” he said.

“This Easter long weekend we have a number of major motorcycling events, and the FIM Speedway Sidecar 1000cc World Cup is a very exciting event to have on the calendar.

“David Parker and his team have done a wonderful job of putting this event together, and we’re very excited to see this international event come to life this weekend.”

The three-day speed carnival, which includes bike and car display, activities for the kids, live music, as well as the fastest Speedway Sidecar racers going head to head, is an event not to be missed this Easter long weekend.

When racing kicks off on Saturday night, the World Cup will be decided over 20 qualifying heats with the top three point scorers going into a final to decide the meeting winner. They’ll be joined in the final by the winner of a “last chance” semi-final for the next four highest scorers.

Gates will open at Gillman Speedway Stadium from 4pm tomorrow, with racing kicking off from 7:30pm. Spectators arriving early will have free access to the pits, to get up close and personal with the bikes, riders and their passengers before the action begins.
