I've had my Z900 for 5 years now and put 24000 kms on the clock. It still feels fun like from the first day I've had it. Stepping down from my previous 2010 Z1000, I did notice a little dip in power but the feeling went away after a day or 2 on this bike. Besides that, it does everything well with 90% commuting and 10% hills. Lane filter and splitting is a blast. You always feel you are in command on this bike and will be the first one off the green lights at intersections thanks to the silky clutch and gear shifter.
A word of warning though: you can trigger speed camera from standing start at intersections. ;-)

My first Kwaka Zed!
Have a second bike Yammie TRX 850.
The Zed 9 renders the Trixie which is a charismatic bike seem like a tee totalling accountant!
Zed 9 Handles like it’s on rails, has a gearbox smoother than a baby’s arse and when hooliganism is required responds with an Oliver Twist request.
More please Sir!!!!!
Great bike for scratching, commuting and general duties. Hardest thing to do is not ride like a lunatic - I’m struggling and I’m 57

I’ve read this review quite a few times over the past year. I ended up purchasing a z900 and absolutely love it. First “big bike” from my LAMS machine. The Z is tame and easy to ride when going through the streets and aggressive when you give her the berries on weekend runs. As a novice rider, it took me a while to get used to the extremely precise gearbox, but once I got there the bike shifts insanely smooth.

Also, chuckled reading Mike’s comment about Brett’s comment. Critical but not hateful.

Cheers BikeReview.

Let us know what you think Marco, it's certainly quite a different machine to the 1050. I had one of those a number of years ago, and the Z900 feels like a much smaller sportier machine, where the 1050 is more of a torquey nakedbike brawler.

Weel, I owned a Speed 1050 (2008) and it was fantastic but I hate that it had not ABS and fuel indicator (yes, I want it so bad). So I purchased a Z900, actually waiting for it, hope I will not regret as Brett says.

Brett's comment... Finally a bad comment about this bike. I've been doing a lot of research for a purchase. The z900 always gets 4 or 5 stars out of 5. With a 4 star because of something about the ugly muffler or something like that. But I am always leery about 5 star reviews whether I'm buying a motorcycle or a lawn mower. I look at the 1 or 2 star reviews to try and get at the truth.
So I've searched the entire internet and Brett should be proud knowing he has the most scathing review in the world. However, it is the only one I've seen. Even the MT-09 guys like them.
Brett, you are in a group of z900 haters with a membership of ONE. Cheers.

In reply to <a href="https://bikereview.com.au/review-2017-kawasaki-z900/#comment-5878">Brett</a>.

Hey Brett, sorry to hear you don't enjoy it. It's Kris here and I owned a Speed Triple for a number of years (an 08) and that was a very characterful machine. The newer versions are considerably better again too.

That said I rode the Z900 for a short period when we did this test and found it a fun machine, with a more characterful engine than the Z800 and Z1000s I'd ridden previously. It is a very compact bike though, with very sporty ergonomics, which won't suit everyone, or even be what everyone is looking for.

What are you looking at now? Or are you going to hold onto it?
