Thanks for picking up on that. Possibly BMW supplied us with the wrong info. I'll follow it up. Cheers

"Sitting astride the bike it feels pretty tall, but my test bike had been fitted with the 855mm HP sport seat. Your test bike was fitted with (and your pics show) a Regular height 840mm HP Comfort Seat. It is narrower towards the tank and not as wide as the Standard 840mm or 820mm seats. The 855mm High HP Comfort Seat has a different cover design noticeably on the passenger pad.

Hi Mate - 444kg all up (bike, riders, luggage)... so roughly 228kg, plus a 90kg rider, 70kg pillion, fuel, luggage of say 50kg luggage etc...

Just to clarify, I am not one of those internet lunatics that goes around looking for grammatical and factual errors in articles...

I am planning a two up tour with luggage on my XR and actually want to know the correct figure!

I own a 2017 XR and it has been fantastic.

The level of vibration does seem to vary from bike to bike but the 2017 model onwards were a definate improvement. I personally had no issues but fitted a set heavier Evotech bar ends and its almost non existent now.

One thing I would like to query, your review mentions the load weight rating has increased by 10kg to 444kg? Wondering if this should be 444 pounds? At first i thought it was an innocent typo but the same 444kg figue is mentioned in numerous other reviews and I am wondering if this was an incorrect figure included in the press pack? If its correct that means the humble XR holds way more than a K1600GTL and can carry almost half a tonne!!

Love the website.

Wow! Really sorry to hear but I agree, you have such a special climate and road conditions to deal with there, unlike anywhere in the world and I am sure that few manufacturers do development and testing in India. We get hot days here, over 40-degrees, but I have not ridden an S 1000 XR in those conditions. I really hope you can get the help needed, or offload the bike! Jeff.

Bought a 2018 model S 1000XR during February 2019.
May be the observation narrated above could be exemption as it is different to me.

1. I bought S1000XR during the month of February 2019
2. After taking delivery it was found that the Clutch and Gear shift was a problem, even toady.
it is hard to shift the gear.
3. It is observed that the engine temperature rises to 112 Deg.c and the engine stops, especially
during city drive and riding the bike becomes a task.
4.The tyre rim are not sturdy and could damage at any point of time even if fall on a small pothole
5. Night driving is a herculean task since the head lamp does not provide sufficient light
6.BMW dealers do not have the infrastructure to handle the bike in India.
7.S1000XR Bike is not suitable for Indian conditions, may be because of the ambient temperature
considered while designing could be less than 40 deg.c.
7.Most of the dealers across India even don't know how to troubleshoot a problem
8.BMW motorrad India do not support and even don't have the idea to resolve a problem
9. BMW India and Dealers do not highlight the facts on hidden charges and this charges are
informed when the vehicle is sent for the first service
10. Non availability of spares and to cost a fortune.
11.Dealership do not have proper technical personnel to service the bike

Hi Paul, the last one we rode was fine - but we still hear from readers/owners having the issue. It seems to be still about but not every bike... Jeff.
