Hey mate!
Sorry for the belated response - a bit crazy here at the moment! Honestly, I wish I had more to give you, we’ve tried to have a look for some gear to beef it up a bit and we have been struggling. Aside from the bar risers (which make a massive difference), a set of decent trail tyres and the airfilter, we haven’t done much.
I have played around with the suspension settings and I think I’ve got it dialled in to what I like - again that’ll depend on the terrain you’ll be mainly riding.
In terms of tips - we have noticed that the seat mount bolts and rear mudguard worked themselves loose. I’d carefully check all the bolts and torque them to spec. There is also a throttle stopper/limitation installed which might be worth removing (you’ll see it down near the intake at the end of the throttle cable) might give you a bit more power to keep up with your mates if they’re on the bigger bikes.
We also lost the coolant reservoir cap which caused a bit of a hazard. Keep an eye on that.
I personally think you’ll be fine - I’d head off on mine no worries (with the right spares and tools of course).
Best of luck and let us know how it goes!
Cheers,
NW

I am looking to take my MT650 from here in cairns across to Broome and back with some mates.

I am conserned about the river crossings along this route and the toll its gonna take.

Got any tips? Did you find a bash guard or anything to make the rear suspension more suited for offroading?

Hi Russell, no good re spares - ouch! Yes I doubt Nick will be pushing it that far again. He is getting an 800MT next year, should be more suitable.

Careful what you hit with it, I've not taken mine off gazetted roads and I've already bent the front rim and have leaking front fork seals. Already over two months off the road as there are no spares in the country. If your readers want an actual adventure bike, this probably isn't it. If you want a comfortable tourer with a nice upright seating position, yeah grab yourself a 650mt.
