Sorry Kris but Greg Hellsten is 100% correct.

It's a 192kg bike - with 47hp / 35kw so it comes in well under the power to weight restrictions imposed under the LAMS rules of 150kw per metric tonne.

1000kg / (192kg + 90kg rider) x 35kw = 124kw per tonne.

LAMS allows for up to 150kw per tonne.

The UK / European 34hp restricted version never came to Australia because the full power version easily met LAMS restrictions.

Hi Greg thanks for the message - the bike tested here is a specific Australian model restricted in power for the learner market called LAMS.
Cheers
Jeff.

Refer
BMW's G 650 GS is a versatile multipurpose LAMS machine... Here's our BMW G 650 GS review. Test: Kris Hodgson

These figures quoted in Kris’s review of a 2013 G650GS are not correct ;
CLAIMED POWER: 25kW[34hp]@6500rpm
CLAIMED TORQUE: 47Nm[34ft-lbs]@4500rpm
need to be corrected.
Much higher figures were produced at the wheel as quoted by Motorcycle.com for a 2011 G650GS
and much higher figures are quoted for G650GS models by entering the VIN in the BMW Vin decoder
