Ducati Unveil The New Multistrada V4 Rally In Sydney
Ducati recently announced that they will be releasing a teched out Multistrada V4 Rally. We got a first look at the new model at Ducati Australia’s Sydney HQ. It sees a new approach to the popular model, making the switch to a more off-road capable machine with longer travel and dirt dedicated engine modes.
Rocking up to Ducati Australia in Alexandria, the new Multistrada V4 Rally is draped in a sheet as select media are some of the first people to see it in the flesh. The team at Ducati walked us through where the Rally sits in their line-up and all the changes.

Pulling the covers off the first time and underneath is a much more off-road looking machine than the Multistrada V4 S, which it sits above in terms of the Multistrada family. Super tall suspension, a big bash plate, knuckle guards, floating panier mounts, centre-stand and more.
Starting out with the appearance, the V4 Rally is stunning in the flesh. Ducati Australia are super excited about the “Brushed Aluminium & Matt Black” colour scheme and for good reason. Those brushed aluminium panels look absolutely spectacular on the bike and compliment the larger tank design really well.
In terms of other styling, it remains largely unchanged from the Multistrada V4 S. Styling has always been a key element with the Multistrada, it’s such a good looking bike from the front. LED headlights and cornering lights compliment those sharp lines throughout.
The taller suspension travel gives it an even larger look. The suspension system looks spectacular at the front and rear, Ducati Australia took the opportunity to show us the techy rear preload adjuster. Riders can set the preload at the rear on the fly through the dash, this lowers the rear of the bike a noticeable amount.
This function is further improved through the “easy lift” function, the V4 Rally will open the suspension hydraulics when you switch the key on to make it easier to lift off the stand. It’s all pretty spectacular to see the suspension adjusting itself in real time and hearing it all work.
Ducati have again adopted tech from the car world with adaptive radar cruise control and have added a rear radar for a blind spot indicator. The Multistrada V4 Rally will flash a warning on the mirrors when it senses a fast approaching vehicle behind you. This gives riders the opportunity to quickly dart out of the way of approaching danger.
The V4 Granturismo remains relatively unchanged. Coming back to that touring part of the V4 Rally, Ducati have further extended that cylinder-bank deactivation in a bid to extend the range while commuting. This combined with the new 30L tank, Ducati Australia mentioned that riders could see an increase of roughly 150km per tank, 35 per cent increase over the V4 S. Cam timing and the exhaust have also been updated.
As is the case with most of the Ducati range, all the assists and power modes are customisable through a gorgeous TFT dash. New for the V4 Rally is the “off-road” power mode, bringing the power down from 125kW to 84kW but with a “Dynamic” throttle response. The quick shifter has also been updated to allow for a smoother, low-rev shift.
The wheels have been updated in a bid to lose some of the weight gained from the new tech, seeing a 3.2kg decrease over the wheels on the V4 S. The example that Ducati unveiled for us has Pirelli Scorpion STR’s wrapped around the spoked wheels, the V4 Rally will come with a more road-centric Scorpion Trail II.
Functional design changes include closable air ducts (which direct air from lower on the bike back onto the rider), reinforced sump guard, adjustable rear brake lever, new footpegs, new air deflectors and a new adjustable windshield.
It all looks like a serious bit of kit, it closes that gap between the Multistrada V4 S and the Desert X. Allowing for a big, smooth engine for plenty of on-road KM matched with suspension that can handle harsh roads with a passenger and packed panniers.
The Multistrada V4 Rally will start from $41,400 in Australia so you’re paying a pretty penny for it, but you should really check out the our run down of the model to see some of the insane tech that Ducati have put on this thing.
We can’t wait to through a leg over the 2023 Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally, check back in soon for a full test when they start landing in Australia.
