Ducati is making waves in the motocross scene with the highly anticipated arrival of the Desmo450 MX, set to land in Australian and NZ dealerships this September. Priced at $16,300 in Australia and $17,793 in New Zealand, this cutting-edge dirt weapon is already winning.

The Desmo450 MX has already proven its racing pedigree, securing victory in the Italian Prestige MX1 Championship with Alessandro Lupino behind the bars. Now, Ducati is taking things to the next level by stepping onto the world stage, officially entering the 2025 Motocross World Championship (MXGP) with the Aruba.it – Ducati Factory MX Team.

Leading the charge in Ducati’s MXGP campaign will be a pair of seasoned riders—Jeremy Seewer and Mattia Guadagnini—who will pilot the Desmo450 MX against the world’s best. Guadagnini has already given Ducati a taste of success with a podium finish at the Internazionali d’Italia MX EICMA Series in Montevarchi, proving the bike’s competitiveness on the international circuit.

What sets the Desmo450 MX apart from the competition is its unique use of Ducati’s signature desmodromic valve control system. Unlike traditional motocross engines that rely on valve springs, the desmodromic system uses a mechanically actuated valve closure, ensuring precise control at high RPMs. This technology, derived from Ducati’s dominance in road racing, allows for improved performance, responsiveness, and reliability—an advantage that could reshape the off-road segment.

The Desmo450 MX isn’t just a statement of Ducati’s motocross ambitions; it’s also the first step in a larger off-road project. The Ducati Corse R&D – Factory MX Team is already working on the next evolution—the Desmo250 MX prototype—which is set to compete in the Italian MX2 Championship. Factory rider Alessandro Lupino will spearhead its development, working alongside motocross legend Antonio Cairoli to fine-tune the 250cc machine before its production debut.

Ducati’s move into motocross is a bold but calculated step, leveraging its extensive racing experience to bring high-performance engineering to the dirt. The 2025 MXGP season kicks off in Argentina on March 2nd and will span 20 rounds across four continents, broadcast in over 180 countries. With Ducati now in the mix, the championship is set for an even more thrilling season.
