Twelve months of adventure riding, testing, commuting and touring put Hatto’s Airoh Commander helmet, Five TFX-3 Airflow gloves and MotoDry Rallye 2 adventure gear to the test...
After 12 months of real-world adventure riding, commuting and touring, Hatto reports back on his Moto National Accessories supplied Airoh Commander lid, Five TFX-3 Airflow gloves and MotoDry Rallye 2 suit, sharing durability insights and comfort impressions…
Spending a full year living out of riding gear is the ultimate test. From icy alpine mornings in Victoria and New South Wales to the oppressive heat, dust and sudden downpours of far north Queensland, I’ve clocked thousands of kilometres across Australia wearing adventure kit distributed locally by Moto National Accessories
Airoh Commander 2 adventure helmet
The centrepiece of my setup has been the Commander 2 Matt Black adventure helmet from Airoh, retailing at $699.95. It’s a premium ADV lid built around a Composite Carbon shell, offered in three shell sizes, ECE 22.06 approved, and tipping the scales at just 1440g (±50g). It also features Airoh’s ASN and AEFR safety systems, an extra-wide visor with A3S anti-fog lock, Pinlock 120 XLT included, DD-ring retention, Coolmax lining and a removable washable interior.
Over the past year I’ve had the pleasure of testing this helmet across some of Australia’s most breathtaking adventure roads. In freezing alpine conditions, where temperatures dropped into single digits and even negatives, the Pinlock insert was a lifesaver, keeping my vision crystal clear. Up north, in dusty heat and traffic haze, the helmet’s ventilation and airflow really came into their own. The flip-down sun visor and goggle compatibility were invaluable when riding through bull dust holes and long clouds of dust.
What stood out most was comfort over distance. The lightweight design reduced fatigue on long days in the saddle, while the plush liner and simple strap system made it easy to live with day after day. Even at highway speeds, with or without a windscreen, I experienced minimal buffeting and impressively low noise for an adventure helmet. After months of punishment it still feels tight, solid and well finished. For me, it’s a genuine 9/10 – and there are more reviews on Airoh products here.

Five TFX-3 Airflow gloves
My hands have been protected by the TFX-3 Airflow Adventure Gloves from Five Gloves, priced at $129.95. Built with mixed stretch water-repellent fabric, four-way Spandex, synthetic leather palms and Kevlar reinforcement, they also feature soft TPR knuckle protection, touchscreen compatibility, silicone grip panels and reflective detailing.
I’ve put these gloves through everything from alpine dirt and tar to rocky climbs, slippery mud and tropical downpours. They’ve even been crash-tested during a couple of offs and still look remarkably good, with the padding doing its job.
The fit is beautiful, with no annoying bunching between thumb and forefinger, and a clever stretch panel makes getting them on and off easy — even when cold and wet. I also love the long cuff, which tucks neatly under adventure jacket sleeves, and the built-in clip system is surprisingly handy for hanging them up overnight to dry.
“After a year of hard riding, the leather palms, stretch panels and vents are still in great shape”
Durability has been outstanding. After a year of hard riding, the leather palms, stretch panels and vents are still in great shape. They’re not designed as winter gloves, but they even got me through single-digit temperatures when I was caught out without my cold-weather pair. Touchscreen functionality works properly too, saving plenty of glove-off moments. Another easy 9/10 from me – and there are more Five glove reviews to be found here.

MotoDry Rallye 2 suit
Rounding out the kit is the Rallye 2 Jacket and Pants from MotoDry, priced from $319.95 for the jacket and $219.95 for the pants. Together they form an affordable all-season adventure suit aimed squarely at riders who want versatility without premium-brand pricing.
Both jacket and pants are constructed from 600 Denier heavy-duty abrasion-resistant material, with reinforced impact zones and a dual liner system featuring removable waterproof and thermal layers. CE armour is fitted to shoulders, elbows and knees, complemented by HDF back and hip protectors. Ventilation comes via MotoDry’s Clip-Air system plus zippered chest, bicep, forearm and rear vents on the jacket, while the pants feature pre-curved knees, stretch panels and long leg cuff zips.
I’ve effectively lived in this suit for weeks at a time. It’s absorbed minor crashes, brushed off scrubby bush encounters and handled wildly changing climates without complaint. I particularly appreciate the curved knee design and stretch panels through the crotch, waist and upper legs, which make standing on the pegs and long seated stints equally comfortable — an important detail as I’ve lost a bit of bounce in my bones.
“It’s absorbed minor crashes, brushed off scrubby bush encounters and handled wildly changing climates without complaint”
Storage is generous, with large water-resistant chest pockets and secure lower pockets proving genuinely useful for essentials. The soft-feel collar works well in both hot and cold conditions, while the adjustable waist allows quick on-the-fly fit tweaks. In alpine areas, paired with skins top and bottom and compression socks, I was never cold. With liners removed in the tropics, airflow was impressive for a full adventure suit.
Off the bike, comfort remained surprisingly good. I could walk around campsites, set up camp and move freely without feeling like I was wrapped in cardboard. The only criticism I have is that the lower pant legs don’t zip over my boots — a minor niggle in an otherwise impressive package. Considering the price point, I rate the Rallye 2 setup as excellent value adventure gear, scoring it another 9/10 – check out more MotoDry reviews here.

Taken as a complete system — helmet, gloves and riding suit — this Moto National adventure lineup has proven itself across every environment Australia can throw at a rider. From freezing mountain passes to humid coastal highways and dusty inland tracks, the gear has delivered comfort, protection and durability where it counts.
My final word is simple: this is honest, hardworking adventure equipment that doesn’t pretend to be boutique, but absolutely gets the job done. If you’re chasing long-distance reliability without blowing the budget, this combination is well worth a look.
