Suzuki DR150 Arrives in Australia from $3,290 Ride Away
Suzuki Australia has announced the arrival of the new DR150 from $3,290 Ride Away, a lightweight dual-purpose motorcycle designed to deliver reliable performance for farm duties, recreational riding and entry-level off-road use.
Joining Suzuki’s DR family, the DR150 is aimed at riders seeking a practical and affordable machine capable of handling a variety of rural and off-road environments. With a simple air-cooled engine, rugged chassis and approachable ergonomics, the new model is designed to offer dependable transport across paddocks, trails and private property.
At the heart of the DR150 is a compact 149cc air-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine that produces approximately 11.8 horsepower at 8,000rpm and 11.6Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. The engine uses a simple SOHC two-valve layout and carburettor fuel system, prioritising durability and ease of maintenance over outright performance.
Power is delivered through a five-speed gearbox, allowing riders to manage low-speed off-road terrain while still maintaining usable cruising capability when required. The engine’s strong low-rev torque characteristics make it well suited to property work and recreational trail riding, where tractable power delivery and reliability are key priorities.
Suzuki has engineered the DR150 with durability and practicality in mind. A high-tensile steel frame forms the backbone of the chassis, providing a robust platform while keeping overall weight manageable at approximately 139kg. The combination of relatively low weight and a narrow off-road profile is designed to give riders confidence in uneven terrain or loose surfaces.
Suspension duties are handled by conventional telescopic forks at the front and a rear monoshock system, tuned to offer comfort and stability over rough ground and unsealed surfaces. The dual-sport wheel configuration – a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear – helps provide stability in loose conditions while maintaining seat height and rider accessibility.
Practicality is central to the DR150’s design. Suzuki has equipped the bike with both electric and kick-start systems, providing riders with a useful backup starting method in remote environments or when the battery is low. This dual-start configuration is a feature valued by rural riders and those operating far from workshop support.
The DR150’s dimensions also support its intended role as a versatile off-road machine. A seat height of 839mm offers a comfortable riding position for a broad range of riders, while 244mm of ground clearance allows the bike to tackle uneven trails, farm tracks and obstacles without excessive risk of underbody contact. A generous 12.5-litre fuel tank further improves its practicality by offering extended riding range between refuelling stops.
Braking is handled by a front hydraulic disc and rear drum brake setup, a simple and durable arrangement commonly used on lightweight dual-purpose motorcycles. Spoked wheels fitted with semi dual-sport tyres (90/90-19 front and 110/90-17 rear) provide a balance between off-road grip and general durability for mixed-terrain use.
Despite its rugged focus, the DR150 also includes modern touches. A digital instrument display provides key information including speed, fuel level, trip data and warning indicators, while lighting is designed to support early morning starts or late finishes during work or recreational riding.
The DR150 expands Suzuki Australia’s lightweight off-road offering with an affordable and practical option for farmers, property owners, hobby riders and beginners looking for a simple and dependable motorcycle.
The Suzuki DR150 will arrive in Australian dealerships from April and will be available in Metallic Dazzling Cool Blue with a ride-away price of $3,290. The model is backed by Suzuki’s 12-month warranty.
