WEM announce Two-Stroke Nationals for 2019
Williams Event Management, the commercial rights holder of the Australian Motocross Championship Series, is proud to announce the new Yamaha bLU cRU 2 Stroke National series for 2019.
WEM are very excited to partner with Motorcycling Australia and together with the support of Yamaha Motor Australia establish the new 2 Stroke Nationals Series for both juniors and senior competitors. The aim of the series is to help develop Australia’s upcoming talent and give them a wider range of racing opportunities.
The new series will also help prepare junior riders as they move up into senior racing and more specifically for international events such as the FIM World Junior MX Championship.
Kevin Williams, Williams Event Management saying, “I was fortunate enough to spend a week at Horsham for the World Junior Motocross Championships, during that week I had the opportunity to speak with the people from the FIM and majority of the international riders and their teams about 2 stroke racing. I was managing the WJMX mechanics area therefore I had the opportunity to gain some valuable knowledge during these conversations and it became very obvious that Australia are behind the rest of the MX world in helping to prepare our junior riders for International events, so I met with MA and we put a program together that would help in this area.”
Peter Doyle, CEO Motorcycling Australia adding, “MA has had a long relationship with WEM, and we are pleased to be able to work alongside them with creating a series that will aid in the development of the junior riders in preparation for international competition. We will be looking at the results of the competitors in this series, along with other event results, during the selection process for the Australian Junior World teams. The Senior 2 Stroke classes are a great opportunity for the dads and other amateur level riders to put some fun back into their racing as well as encouraging some legends of the sport to pull their boots back on for some healthy competition against prior rivals and team mates. Therefore, as the new 2 stroke series unfolds, it will bring out a great camaraderie amongst everyone and help create a family-friendly environment within the sport.”
Matthew Ferry, National Sales and Marketing Manager Yamaha Motor Australia also added, “During the 2018 MX Nationals, we had the opportunity to run the YZ65 cup and found that many people were enthused about 2 stroke junior racing, so when Kevin spoke to us about the series we were very excited. This series will give a great opportunity for juniors to race nationally on three different tracks and develop their skills in this great sport.”
