CFMOTO To Join Moto3 In 2022
CFMOTO have recently announced that they will be joining the Moto3 series in 2022. The Chinese manufacturer will joIn the racing series hopefully seeing a progress up to MotoGP with their KTM powered models, which have seen major success in sales recently.
The CFMOTO-KTM partnership started with the production of small-capacity KTM-badged models for China, a market of which last year tallied 17.1 million motorcycle sales. The CFMOTO/KTM joint venture today comprises an office and recently completed R&D building while an all-new manufacturing facility in Hangzhou.
The joint venture will further expand CFMOTO’s research and development team, which currently comprises more than 200 employees across five countries – in addition to CFMOTO’s workforce of more than 3500 employees worldwide. The joint-venture company is known as CFMOTO-KTMR2R, in which CFMOTO holds a majority share of 51 per cent, with the remaining 49 per cent held by KTM.
A new-model assault will target new two-wheel segments for CFMOTO, including the largest and most powerful motorcycles ever produced by a Chinese manufacturer. The CF1250 will debut CFMOTO’s 1279cc V-twin. Producing 105kW (140hp) of power and 120Nm of torque, the engine is a heavily re-engineered version of KTM’s LC8 V-twin, manufactured under licence. At this stage, there are no plans to bring the CF1250 to Australia.
