Pirelli’s Angel GT sports touring tyre line now boasts a successor to the highly regarded Angel GT, with the Angel GT II said to offer a host of improvements to take the popular ‘Gran Turismo’ inspired tyre option to yet another level.
Pirelli has designed Angel GT II with the aim of rewriting the rules of the Sport Touring segment thanks to key features including high mileage, sporty handling and grip combined with fantastic wet conditions behaviour and great confidence and safety to the rider.
The carcass with innovative variable cord end count over tyre section and high-silica compounds combined with a new tread pattern design – derived from World Superbike ‘intermediate’ race tyres – set the benchmark for performance and optimise the effect of electronic rider aids.
The Gran Turismo designation generally refers to travelling at speed over a long distance, with safety and comfort. Most importantly GT signifies making the ride able to offer emotions and fun, in other words, giving great riding pleasure.
Angel GT II development has been focused on consolidating the former Angel GT’s strengths – already a benchmark for mileage and versatility with different bikes and conditions – enhancing wet performance, riding pleasure and confidence in order to define a new reference point for the Sport Touring tyre segment, in-line with Pirelli DNA and the Gran Turismo concept.
The reason why Pirelli has decided to develop a new product in this tyre segment generates from its relevant and growing market volume and from the competitive scenario where products need to keep pace with the evolving need of motorcylists and motorcycles.
The technical development of Angel GT II in terms of profiles, structures, compounds and tread pattern targeted the following main objectives:
- To ensure maximum adherence in all road conditions, linear behaviour in lean transition and consistently support line-holding;
- To couple the sportiness of Pirelli DNA to exceptional performance also in full wet conditions;
- To further raise the bar for tyre lifespan in the segment where its predecessor was already a reference;
- To maximise the effect of electronic rider aids.
The new Angel GT II has been developed to meet the needs of three different motorcyclist groups:
Grand tourers – These riders extensively travel on medium-to-long distances both alone or with pillion passenger and luggage.They ride sport tourers, adventure bikes and the new generation of crossover machines.They demand extended mileage, great stability when heavily loaded, enhanced comfort from dampening, and great safety and confidence, even in the wet.
Smart urbans – These riders use their machines all year long to commute and for urban mobility, with occasional short or medium length free-time trips. They ride super-sport, naked/roadster bikes, sport tourers and the new generation of crossovers. They demand control and braking grip in all conditions including wet and need light handling at low speed. Sometimes they don’t disdain engage in a more dynamic and exciting ride.
Free timers – These riders use their bikes mainly for short week-end trips. They ride mainly super-sport, adventure bikes and the new generation of crossovers. They demand sporty handling, plenty of grip but with extended mileage, performance in the wet and versatility to loading conditions.
Pirelli Angel GT II sizes range
With the Angel GT II, Pirelli aims to confirm and expand the brand’s recognition in the Sport Touring tyre segment by complementing the consolidated values of the brand – such as sportiness and sporty handling – with those of performance consistency, reliability and versatility. The Angel GT II is available in 17 and 19 inch front and 17 rear sizes as below:

Don’t buy it’s!
I purchased these tyres for my 2018 GSX S1000 and not happy at all
The front end feels like it’s got a flat tyre , the initial response when you turn their is lag in time before the bike starts to turn and it feels like shit it’s wobbles Absolutely the worst tire I’ve ever used in my 42 years of riding
What a ripoff!

Hi Peter – that is no good. My experience with them is that, like most sports touring high mileage tyres, they are more conservative in the steering for sure. But nothing that extreme. In saying that I didn’t test them on my own GSX-S1000 when I had one. Have you checked the balance and the pressure and so forth? Jeff.

Hi ,I purchased the GT 2 coming off the earlier G T angels for my RT 1200.Tire pressures monitored on the bike 2.5 kg front and 2.8 -2.9 rear and wheels balanced by BMW workshop on fitting.I find that steering ,lean angle and grip are fine on macadam and flat concrete surfaces but the front circumferential rain grooves do not like grooved concrete with a vagueness to the steering and loss of confidence when changing direction and a slight wobble noticed. This was in dry conditions and I fear would be exacerbated on wet grooved concrete.Thankfully not many grooved roads in my area but I have seen this mentioned in other forums so Pirelli must be aware of this .

Hi Michael, I’ve ridden on them on a local grooved concrete highway here near Sydney recently, and same thing, the bike was weaving like crazy… Everywhere else I was impressed but yes this is an issue. Jeff.

Had Pilot 4s on my 2017 BMW 1200RT….ride sports style in the mountains and some touring and commuting to work…Pilot 4s are appalling…cupping of tread lugs warping midline, flattening rear
awful road noise …ditched them at 50 % wear. Just fitted Pirelli Angel GT11s….wow what an improvement, truly a great tyre for all round riding conditions, two up in the mountains only the solo die hards get away.
