2018 SWM Superdual X & T arrive with updated features
The SWM Superdual threw fuel on the fire in the single-cylinder adventure bike segment with it’s powerful and reliable engine, sleek adventure styling and standard fitment accessories list that made this bike a ready-to-roll adventure seeker.
Check out our test on the 2017 SWM 650 Superdual here.
For 2018 the Superdual takes it to another level with not one, but two Superdaul options and the first to arrive is the Superdual X. New for 2018, the Superdual X features the 21/18-inch wheel combination fitted with Metzeler Sahara 3 tyres along with switchable ABS. Sporting a new look in SWM Red, the X model is available in either full power or LAMS approved configuration.
“The arrival of the Superdual X marks an exciting new time for SWM in Australia,” stated SWM’s Stephen Tuff. “Hard-core adventure riders interested in the Superdual have been waiting for 21/18-inch wheel combination and now that it’s arriving we’ve experienced a huge amount of pre-orders. This comes off the back of our very successful 2017 Superdual model that raised plenty of eyebrows with performance and value for money, unmatched in the adventure market.”
The Superdual X is due to arrive in Australia this month (December 2017) which will be followed by the 2018 Superdual T in January. As with the Superdual X, the T model comes equipped with switchable ABS and in either full power mode or LAMS approved. The T model is available in SWM Grey and is fitted with 19/17-inch wheels mated to Metzeler Tourance tyres.
“Australian adventure riders have been fizzing for these two new models ever since they broke cover in Europe some months ago,” Tuff said. “The fresh new look of both models along with the switchable ABS and options of wheel sizes and unmatched standard fitment accessories is what the market has been asking for. We fielded a massive amount of enquiry and subsequent orders for the 2018 Superdual models from the recent Sydney Motorcycle Show. With plenty of orders in already and healthy numbers arriving into the country in the coming weeks we expect the 2018 Superdual models to be hitting the backroads, highways and dirt tracks across the country in record numbers.”
The Superdual X and T model both share the same liquid-cooled 600cc engine with 6-speed transmission coupled to GET ignition and Mikuni D45 fuel-injection system. Adjustable upside down 45mm forks and Sachs adjustable shock with remote preload adjuster offer a comfortable and competent ride on or off-road and the 19-liter fuel capacity allows for plenty of uninterrupted kilometers of riding.
To mark the introduction of the 2018 Super dual, SWM is offering a GT Kit that includes panniers and driving lights valued at a recommended retail price of $1,500. This offer will run from January 1, to March 31, 2018.
Adventure riding features come standard on the Superdual including hand guards, windscreen, aluminium skid plate, engine and tank crash bars, centre stand and rear carry rack plus there’s provision for 12-volt socket outlet beneath the digital speedo display. The SWM Superdual is adventure-ready. Plus, with the current promotion of free panniers and driving lights make this the most complete adventure ready bike on the showroom floor.
Recommended retail pricing for the 2018 SWM Super dual models is as follows:
- Superdual X $10,490 including GST plus ORC
- Superdual T $10,490 including GST plus ORC

Hi There
Is there a 12 volt outlet ready plug available at the speedo, or would I need to run my own from the battery?
Many thanks
Barry

Hey Barry,
We’ll chase that up and let you know!

We now have the Euro4 version of the Superdual available here in Europe.
A dealer was so kind to check the weight of the Superdual X Euro4 (with ABS). The weight with an almost full fuel tank is 219 KG. The bike was stock with no changes and without the panniers and without the pannier rack.
I wrote about this in the great review of this bike on this website and just want to let you know about it. I am 174 cm and when sitting on the stock Superdual X, it was able to reach the ground with my toes only. The X has the lowered seat already. With this weight I am afraid I will not be able to handle the bike when off road.
I am from Germany by the way. I love this website with lot’s of information – many thanks for all your work!

Thanks for letting us know Steve, that’s disappointing to hear, as it’s significantly heavier than quoted figures! The older model certainly didn’t feel heavy, but we’ll hopefully be able to test the new versions and do a comparison.

Hi to down under from Germany,
I have to update the above data about weight. I bought an X in November 2017 in Germany and have tested a lot since then even if we had a cold winter. Without any changes the weight is about 192 kg with full fuel tank, I reduced the weight to 182 kg with demounting the rear rack, rear foot pegs, the main stand, changing battery to li-ion battery and some minor plastics and details. Though I drive alone and only with soft bags etc. for adventure I am trying to “tune” this magnificant bike by reducing not adding stuff.
It feels much lighter and spontaneuos than my previous BMW GS 650 Dakar with much more direct steering feeling, it works great with the Sahara 3 tyres, they offer splendid and direct touch for road driving, engine works well despite of EURO 4 like I know the Husky engine from my 510 TE, exhaust offers great sound, deep tone and brabbling when driving downhill, I am surprised as other EURO 4 are boring silent. No need to change as far as you won´t need a racing sound. The bike feels very stabile.
It needs minor adjustments to become a faboulous adventure bike for on and offroad driving:
-Gears are a bit short for long distance driving (but perfect for tricky off road sections) so changed to a rear 38 sprocket
-Suspension is surprisingly quite hard so reduced fork oil amount for more sensitive suspension
-Heightened the steering by 1.5cm for better stand on the foot pegs
-Nology hot wire together with the silver spark plug for better run from almost the bottom and more performance combined with lower fuel consumption.
-Fuel consumption with above adjustments about 4,5 litres which means a safe range of at least 350km (!) Returned from a day tour today with slow and fast road driving and after 303 km the fuel blinking symbol is still off :-).
-Seat position is very direct and close to the front, I am 179 cm tall and the seat position is close but perfectly “in” the bike but I would sometimes like to move backwards which because of the shape of the saddle doesn´t really work like on other enduros with flat seat.
-Quality and finish is very good with love to detail when I look closer.
Much more to say about the X, feel free to ask questions.
My opinion: Best single with EURO 4 on the market for a reasonable price. I was test driving the Husqvarna 701 before but it lacks sound, emotions and feeling. You would need to spend a lot more money on Akrapovic, bigger fuel tank and wind shield, all available but then we are talking real money (approx. 12.500 €) versus the Superdual X ready for adventure for less than 8000,- €
Best regards from Frankfurt area, Germany,
Percy

Hey Percy, thanks for the owner review, great to hear from someone who owns one of these machines and rides it long term!

Very, very useful report from Percy. Thank you! The DS X is just starting to get into the UK, and I am desperate to have a sit on one and check out the riding position and the feel of the bike as a “proper” Adv bike. The small wheeled version was not quite what I was looking for…
I have to say the weight has cranked up big tiome compared to the RS650, but I guess all that steel tubing has a real effect. A really good saving though that you have made on your bike Percy, and some great tips for modding the bike 🙂
