Cru Halliday (Stop & Seal Racing), starting from fifth, made an impressive launch to slot in right behind the McMartin Racing teammates. Voight held the lead through lap one, but by lap three, Waters had made his move and taken control of the race. By lap five, Voight had dropped back a few positions, leaving Halliday and Nahlous in pursuit of the leader. As the race entered its closing stages, the front three had broken away from the rest of the pack. On the final lap, Waters remained in front, with Halliday and Nahlous close behind. By the end of lap one, the two young guns were setting the pace at the front. Nahlous’ hopes of a podium finish ended on lap four when he crashed out at Turn 11, leaving a 1-2-3 Ducati lockout with Voight, Waters, and Halliday leading the race.
