Report, 2026 BLU CRU Oceania Junior Cup opener | Thomas Cameron produced a consummate all-weather performance to claim a clean sweep in round one of the 2026 BLU CRU Oceania Junior Cup (OJC) at Sydney Motorsport Park (SMSP) on March 27-28. Press: ASBK Media Pics: RbMotoLens

Cameron got his season off to the perfect start with victory in the wet season opener on Friday before continuing his rich vein of form on Saturday when the circuit was dry and the intensity ratcheted up from all angles.

Through it all, Cameron stood tall and now takes a 22pt (75 to 53) lead over rookies Austin Attard and Patrick Lucchitti into round two at The Bend from May 1-3 – again alongside the 2026 Penrite Australian Superbike Championship presented by Pirelli. Charlie Nichols (51pts) and Callum Campbell (50pts) are also well in the mix.

Cameron presented with his race two winner’s trophy by FIM Deputy CEO Damiano Zamana. Eighteen riders – 12 newcomers and six returning from 2025 – lined up on their identical YZF-R15s under lights at SMSP on Friday night to kickstart the eighth season of OJC competition, and it was the Cameron and Campbell show as they cleared out from the pack on the wet SMP surface.

After trading blows in the first half of the six-lapper, Cameron got his nose in front and won by 0.39secs over Campbell, with Nichols getting the better of a stirring battle for third over Lucchitti, Jordan Lazar and Attard. A thrilling race three, with Cameron (#23) leading from Hyslop (obscured), Lucchitti (#27), Campbell (#26), Nicholls (#22) and Attard (#11). The tempo rose on Saturday after the rain had cleared, with Cameron’s winning margins dropping to 0.17secs in race two and 0.16secs in the finale.

Attard and New Zealander Lucas Hyslop, who had a spill in race one, completed the podium in race two, and in race three Lucchitti and Attard saw out the trifecta. Race three was a gripping finish, with the gap between Cameron and sixth-placed Campbell just 0.215secs, with Nichols and Hyslop fourth and fifth.

Race One started and ran as normal; completely mental! After a couple of months away from the bitumen the kids were bouncing around as if they had sculled a bottle of red cordial!
