Podium joy for Mitten, Bennett and Gramlick at AORC
It was another perfect day the Championship Juniors as they took to a technical and tricky track for Sprints at Round 10 of the 2016 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship today under the New South Wales sky.
As bikes left the start like it was Joshua Brierley (J3) who was seeded number one as they headed out on track for the first test, but unfortunately for him at the conclusion of the first test it was Ryan Marshall (J4) who had the speed outright, finishing with 7:38.652 lap time.
Jordan Ryan (J4) and Connor Gee (J3) were also out in front in second and third this morning and Brierley (J3), Jye Bennett (J3) and Tom Mitten (J4) followed just behind.
However, it wasn’t long before hard charging Bennett and Brierley increased their pace setting fast times to swoop in and steal first and second position outright after only four tests in the books.
For the Mitten brother’s things were also looking up as both Zak and Tom moved in to fourth and fifth positions respectively while Corey Hammond (J3), Will Price (J4), Mitchell Brierley (J3) and Zane Temperley (J4) rounded out the remaining eight positions outright.
Ashden Gramlick and Samuel Noonan were locked in a time battle just under ten seconds separating them, sitting ninth and tenth outright but fighting for first place in the Championship J2 class.
And it was at the conclusion of eight tests that there was no denying that Bennett had the speed today taking the outright lap time and also securing first in his Championship J3 Class with a total time of 55:32.336.
Josh Brierley (55:52.662) couldn’t quite keep on the pace today despite relatively consistent lap times wrapping the day up in second, while Correy Hammond finished third in the J3 class with a time of 56:45.853.
The Mitten brothers once again dominated 1,2 positions in the Championship J4 class Zak (56:09.092) finishing just in front of Tom (56:15.915). In what was difficult and technical track for the Juniors, it was Will Price who managed to snatch third and was the last of the J4 competitors to finish in the 56th minute with a 56:58.189.
Zane Temperley (59:28.154), Jordan Ryan (1:02:13.498), Ryan Marshall (1:02:25.657) and Lucus Asher (1:10:33.249) rounded out the remaining seven positions for their class.
Gramlick (59:35.880) put on another fine performance in front of the Monkerai crowds leading throughout the whole day to cross the finish line in the number one position for the Championship J2 class.
Although another consistent performance by Noonan (59:45.152), he wasn’t quite able to keep on the pace finishing second, while Mathew Pye (1:01:50.310), Jack Parish (1:03:37.096) and Mackenzie Johnson (1:06:15.898) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
The Championship Junior class will now direct their attention to the final rounds of the 2016 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship where Victoria’s rural location of Penshurst will host the battle across the line at Rounds 11 & 12 this September 10-11.
