Waters & Jones Share Wins ASBK Round Five Blockbuster
Round five of the 2025 mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship presented by Motul (ASBK) delivered on every expectation as Josh Waters and Mike Jones went head-to-head at Queensland Raceway, each taking a victory in the two 15-lap SW-Motech Superbike races.
The event marked the championship’s first “two-plus-four” weekend alongside Repco Supercars since 2023, drawing huge crowds and adding an extra layer of spectacle to the already high-stakes racing.
Race One – Jones Strikes Early
Starting bright and early at 8:55am, Jones (Yamaha Racing Team) reinforced his reputation as a master of the Ipswich circuit. Despite running wide on lap five and surrendering second to Glenn Allerton, Jones regrouped with a race-best lap of 1:07.646 to close on polesitter Waters. By lap 12, he made his decisive move at turn two, holding off the Ducati rider for a hard-fought win.
Broc Pearson impressed in third, with Allerton fourth, Anthony West fifth and teenager Cameron Dunker sixth.
Race Two – Waters Hits Back
In the afternoon rematch, Waters (McMartin Racing Ducati) delivered a trademark performance: fast, controlled and unflappable. Leading from the start, he resisted heavy pressure from Jones, who clocked a near-record 1:07.299 in the chase but ultimately finished just over a second adrift. Allerton again completed the podium after fending off West in a close scrap.
With a bonus point for pole position, Waters claimed the overall round win on 46 points to Jones’ 45, with Allerton third on 35.
With three rounds remaining, Waters has stretched his lead to 54 points over Jones (261 to 207). Allerton’s consistency moves him to fourth overall on 161 points, behind West on 172. The next stop is Phillip Island on September 6-7, a venue where Waters boasts an exceptional record.
