Wilson ready for Rnd 1 of 2016 Australian Supercross
SX1 rider Jay Wilson will fly the Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team flag solo at round one of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship at Jimboomba in Queensland this weekend, with Dylan Long sidelined due to injury.
With a successful motocross campaign behind the Factory Honda pair, both Wilson and Long have been on track to launch their Supercross assault this weekend, however unfortunately for Long, a niggling thumb injury has forced the Honda rider to sit out of round one.
Long, who was set to contest the talent packed SX1 class at Jimboomba, has shared his disappointment in being sidelined, however has vowed to be back on the bike as soon as he is fit and healthy.
“It’s obviously a shame that before round one of the Supercross I’ve re-injured my thumb that I hurt at Nowra, but that’s racing and now the focus is on getting better,” Long shared.
“At this stage we aren’t sure of the extent of the injury, or how long it’s going to take to recover, so I’m going to find out from the doctors next week and then we’ll go from there.
“The first round is always a lot of fun so I’m sad that I won’t be there, but I’m sure that Jay will do well, so a huge good luck to him and the team.”
Wilson, who finished in an impressive 6th position in the Australian Motocross Championships in his rookie year, says that he is looking forward to making his 450 Supercross debut at Jimboomba this Saturday.
“I can’t wait for this weekend. It’s been a while since I’ve raced Supercross and I haven’t actually had the opportunity to ride at Jimboomba before, so round one can’t come quick enough,” Wilson shared.
“I’ve had a couple of solid weeks on the bike, and I’m quite surprised with how quickly I picked it all up again.
“I haven’t raced a 450 in Supercross before so this will be another opportunity for me to learn and grow as a rider, but Supercross has always been my stronger discipline so I’m looking forward to working with the team, and seeing where I fit in this weekend.”
The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team will now prepare to head to Jimboomba in Queensland for round one of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship, being held this Saturday, September 17.
