WorldSBK Race 2
The final race of the weekend for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship was packed with drama from start to finish, with Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) completing a perfect weekend by winning all three races.
It was an unbelievable weekend for the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team as Razgatlioglu completed a dream result at Donington Park. After finishing fastest on Friday, and securing the pole position on Saturday, Toprak gave BMW a triple race win – his ninth victory with the German manufacturer. The #54 equals Tom Sykes’ record at the historic circuit, after beating Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) by an incredible 8.062s. Behind the Italian, and taking the final spot on the podium, was Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), who completed his 300th race start.
There was drama before the start, with reigning World Champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) crashing at Goddards on his sighting lap. The #1 would get his machine repaired on the grid, just in time for the race start. However, once the lights went out nobody could match the rocketing Razgatlioglu, for he maintained his lead from Bulega and Scott Redding (Bonovo Action BMW). Redding had a strong start to Race 2 but would soon be caught and demoted to fourth by Alex Lowes.
Front row starter, Jonathan Rea (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) had a tough start to Race 2, losing touch with the front four before getting overtaken by Bautista and Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) with 14 laps remaining. After overtaking Rea, the #1 set his sights on Andrea Locatelli (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) – soon entering the top five. At the front, Razgatlioglu put together a sensational performance, consistently lapping inside the 1’26 mark in the late stages, as he crossed the line to clinch victory by 8.062s over Bulega. Redding held onto fourth position in the dying stages of Race 2, keeping a 1.201s margin to Bautista.
“I’m feeling incredible. My target coming here was to win all three races and we did that. I’m strong but my bike was also incredible at this circuit, and the team found improvements for the bike each day,” a delighted Razgatlioglu insisted.

WorldSSP Race 2
The FIM Supersport World Championship returned to track at the Prosecco DOC UK Round and delivered a spectacular finale to the weekend, with Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) inheriting victory at Donington Park after Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) was penalised.
Huertas was able to secure the win at Donington Park, completing a perfect weekend in the WorldSSP class. The #99 was declared the winner after Montella exceeded track limits on the final lap and was demoted one position. Meanwhile, securing the final spot on the podium was Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) – a further 3.316s adrift.
Once the lights went out it was a fantastic launch from Huertas but his lead did not last long, as on the exit of Redgate, Montella led. However, there would be an early red flag in Race 2, bringing a halt to track action after an incident involving PTR Triumph’s John McPhee, Krittapat Keankum (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team), TJ Toms (R&R Racing) and Federico Fuligni (Orelac Racing Verdnatura) at Turn 10.
The race was reduced to 12 laps with original grid positions, allowing Huertas to start on pole position. Once the restart got underway, it was a carbon copy start from Montella, stealing the lead once again. The #55 was unable to make a gap in the early stages, with Huertas, Navarro and Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) on his tail. Meanwhile, Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph) and Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team’s Valentin Debise duelled for the final spot inside the top five as the end of the race neared.
On the final lap, Huertas closed the gap to Montella in the lead, having a look at the entry to Turn 9. The #99 gave it everything but couldn’t match Montella’s incredible pace – settling for second. However, Montella ran onto the green on the final lap, which saw him demoted one position for exceeding track limits. This allowed Huertas to take the 25 points, adding a further victory to his name. Manzi secured fourth to close the weekend as the top Yamaha after finishing ahead of home hero Booth-Amos.
