Yamaha Clinches 11th WorldSSP Manufacturers’ Title with All-New R9
Yamaha has cemented itself as the most successful manufacturer in FIM Supersport World Championship history, claiming its 11th Manufacturers’ crown in 2025 with the debuting Yamaha R9. The victory ends Ducati’s two-year reign and marks Yamaha’s first title since 2022… Press: WorldSBK
The R9 wasted no time proving its credentials, taking 14 wins from 18 races in its maiden season. Championship leader Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) secured nine victories, while Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) added five more. Between them, they carried Yamaha to the top of the standings, showing the R9’s pace and reliability from the opening round in Australia.

Manzi reflected on the achievement: “I’m really proud to have played a part in helping Yamaha close in on the Manufacturers’ Championship. This was a brand-new project and normally it takes time, but we were immediately competitive. To see the R9 winning so quickly is amazing.”
Oncu echoed the sentiment, adding: “I’m very happy for Yamaha, congratulations to them. Now I hope we can push on and fight for the Teams’ and Riders’ Championships as well.”
A Historic Milestone
The 2025 success pushes Yamaha clear of Honda, who sits on 10 Manufacturers’ titles, making the Japanese brand the most decorated in WorldSSP history. From the first race win in Phillip Island to dominance across Europe, the R9 has delivered a season that few could have predicted so soon after its launch.
Michael van Zomeren, Yamaha Motor Europe’s Marketing & Motorsport Director, praised the combined efforts of the factory and privateer teams: “This is a hugely important moment for Yamaha as we celebrate victory with the all-new R9 in its very first season. With 14 victories across Stefano and Can, plus strong performances from Lucas Mahias and rookies Roberto Garcia and Aldi Satya Mahendra, this bike has proven itself. A big thank you goes to our teams for their hard work, and to our Motorsport Division for creating a race bike capable of winning from the start. Now, fingers crossed for the Triple Crown.”
The Road Ahead
With three rounds left to run, Manzi leads the Riders’ standings and Yamaha teams remain in contention for the Teams’ Championship. If successful, it would complete a clean sweep of honours for the brand in the R9’s rookie season.
Regardless of the outcome, Yamaha’s 2025 campaign has already written a new chapter in Supersport racing history. The R9 has arrived with authority, proving not only that Yamaha still has the engineering firepower to dominate, but also that the Supersport class remains as fiercely competitive and exciting as ever.
