Macna is a name in riding apparel that is by no means new. Founded 30-years-ago, the company cut its teeth with waterproof gloves before successfully moving on to what is now a comprehensive range of riding gear. We test the Mundial Adv Touring jacket.

Aimed at the adventure-touring rider, the Macna Mundial is a three-layer jacket that is as well-suited to sweltering days muscling a big adventure bike off-road as it is covering monotonous miles on the freeway in flogging down rain. The three layers of the Mundial are the outer shell, waterproof and thermal liners. The three layers of the Mundial are the outer shell, waterproof and thermal liners. The jacket can be comfortably worn without both inner layers and, with equal comfort, be worn with either one of the liners on its own. Fitment of the liners is by zips around the chest and also in the sleeves – meaning no loose layers inside the jacket.

The Mundial is a full-length jacket and there is plenty of adjustment points to get the fit tailored to the individual. With one or both liner in, it’s a double-zip closure on the jacket along with Velcro to cover over the main zip. There’s additional Velcro closure around the neck and cuffs as well as adjustable tension available around the forearms and waist. Finally, there’s an elastic tensioner around the bottom hem of the jacket to ensure the fit is tailored and water ingress points are minimal.

Ventilation comes in the form of flaps on the arms and chest that that act as intakes and a big flap on the back of the neck that acts as an exhaust. There’s one internal pocket and two external pockets and there are also a couple of lined pockets on the outer shell to keep your hands warm. There’s elbow and shoulder protectors fitted, which aren’t in any way bulky or rigid, and there’s provisions for a back protector which will set you back an extra $80 from the Macna accessory range. Additionally, the jacket comes fitted with provisions to carry the batteries and cables for electric-heated Macna gloves.

Style-wise, the Mundial is on the sportier side of touring and the fabric has the lightness and fabric feel of a summer jacket. In few heavy showers I’ve ridden wearing it in, the Mudial has been waterproof and in no way did it make any movements hard on or off the bike. Ventilation was brilliant with all the vents opened up and with everything zipped and closed it was warm and comfortable. Aside from the want of some back armour and a little less light grey which may stain with time, the Mundial can’t be faulted as a great value, all-round adventure touring jacket.
