One and a half years later, the BikeReview Torrot Motocross Two shows almost no signs of use, despite 100-hours of racing and fun riding in the hands of our rev head boys. Here's the final update...

The Torrot Motocross Two has proven to be bullet-proof. We’ve done 100 hours of riding, and there are zero signs of wear and tear, and it has cost us absolutely nothing in maintenance, saving at least $1000 over what we would have spent on our KTM50SX in that time…

We have been so impressed with the Torrot Motocross Two that when the test period was up, we actually did a deal with Torrot Australia and now we are proud owners of the bike. The fact that, after a year and a half of hard use and 100 hours, it is still almost like brand new, is testament to the strength of the ChroMo frame and swingarm, the wheels, suspension, brakes, plastics and the engine, not to mention that after about 75 charge cycles each, the batteries still have full performance also.



The plan was originally to sell it and buy a Torrot Motocross Three, the next step up, as the eldest of the boys has out-grown the Motocross Two and the youngest could also ride a Motocross Three. So we detailed and serviced the bike ready to sell.

In the end, though, we have decided to keep the Motocross Two for our youngest daughter, who is 7, and has just started to ride the PW50. So it’s now in storage. Before we detailed the bike, Anthony insisted on one last fun ride, so just after Xmas we headed out.

After the final rides (for now, I’m sure the boys will pinch it from their little sister), we gave the Torrot and really thorough details and service. I followed the guidelines laid out by Torrot (as I have since the bike was brand new) and like the previous service, the only thing it needed was a chain adjustment.

Everything else was in spec, but I lubed all pivot points anyway, including the steering-head and swingarm pivot, axles and shock pivots, levers, throttles and side-stand pivot (it’s back on now).



The above photos were taken before the detail and you can see, the tyres are incredibly good and it is hard to believe they’ve done 100 hours, but they most definitely have. That shows the gentle power delivery and the light weight of the Torrot really cause hardly any wear. The chain is only two notches further back than new, the brake pads are within service spec and everything is perfect.



The engine bearings sound good, sprockets are good, and I changed the fork oil (100ml/10W) but it was OK anyway. I’m amazed at the bike, and the only thing I will be replacing is the rear shock, for a better one. The original was already a bit of a pogo stick and the rebound control has reduced a bit further now.

Considering the same period, 100-hours, I would have rebuilt the bottom-end of our KTM50SX once, and the top-end three times, plus gone through countless clutch plates and oil, and a few spark plugs, I reckon the Torrot has just about paid for itself! We’re more than converted!

Our Torrot Motocross Two journey is over for now, but it certainly won’t be the last Torrot in the Ware household. We have options now to make it a Trials bike if our youngest wants to try that, or to keeo it as is for some motocross action.. It is a big investment for families, but I see us getting at least another three years use out of the bike, so that converts to about $1000 a year. Not too bad at all…
