TVS Motor Establishes Global Centre of Excellence in Italy
TVS Motor Company has announced a significant step in its global growth strategy, establishing a new Global Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Design and Engineering in Bologna, Italy. The move follows TVS’s acquisition of 100 per cent ownership of Engines Engineering S.p.A. Press: TVS Motor.
Engines Engineering is a renowned Italian design and engineering firm with deep roots in MotoGP and high-performance motorcycle development. The CoE will act as a concept-to-product innovation hub, integrating Engines Engineering’s expertise in advanced prototyping, high-performance motorcycle engineering, and racing technology with TVS Motor’s established global R&D network. The aim is to shorten product development cycles, improve design flexibility, and deliver a new wave of premium, connected and electric vehicles for international markets.
TVS says the Bologna base will enhance its ability to differentiate products in increasingly competitive global markets, while also creating a platform for rapid adoption of emerging technologies such as AI-driven design tools, digital simulation, and advanced lightweight materials.
Importantly, the new Centre of Excellence is set to have a direct impact on Norton Motorcycles, TVS’s iconic British marque. Since acquiring Norton in 2020, TVS has invested more than £200 million in stabilising and rebuilding the historic brand, with production now centred at its Solihull headquarters in the UK.
By drawing on the Italian CoE’s expertise, Norton is expected to gain additional engineering depth and design resources to support its ambition of crafting modern luxury motorcycles that combine heritage with cutting-edge performance. This synergy is likely to accelerate Norton’s ability to bring new flagship models to market and compete with other European premium manufacturers.
Sudarshan Venu, Chairman of TVS Motor Company, said the acquisition was about both talent and vision: “The establishment of the new Italian Global Centre of Excellence marks another milestone in strengthening our capabilities and accelerating our journey to reimagine mobility. By combining the creativity and racing expertise of Engines Engineering with our engineering and design strengths, we are expanding our ability to deliver premium, connected, and electric vehicles that set new global benchmarks. Importantly, this Centre of Excellence further augments Norton’s capabilities, enabling it to advance its craft of exceptional high-performance motorcycles that not only honour its iconic legacy but also elevate its future ambitions.”
The CoE is also positioned as a magnet for world-class talent, aiming to foster collaboration between engineers, universities, startups and technology suppliers worldwide. TVS hopes this networked approach will produce disruptive solutions while embedding sustainability and performance into the DNA of its next generation of products.
Founded in Bologna, Engines Engineering has long been a respected name in European motorcycle circles, with decades of experience in race engineering, MotoGP involvement, and innovation in high-performance motorcycle design. Its expertise spans from digital development and simulation through to physical prototyping and testing, making it an ideal fit for TVS’s ambitions.
By bringing Engines Engineering entirely under the TVS umbrella, the company gains a base in one of the world’s most important motorcycle regions—Italy’s Motor Valley—while inheriting a strong local talent pool steeped in design and racing culture.
Beyond motorcycles, TVS Motor has made clear that the Bologna CoE will support broader mobility goals, including premium scooters and electric platforms. The focus areas will include modular platform development, AI-driven tools for faster and more efficient design, and digital integration to create more intuitive, rider-focused products.
The company emphasises that the goal is not just to expand its premium portfolio but also to align with its long-term vision of sustainable mobility. By reducing product development cycles and improving global collaboration, TVS aims to accelerate the rollout of vehicles that combine performance, style and environmental responsibility.
For TVS, the establishment of the Global Centre of Excellence marks a major strategic milestone in its journey to become a global player in premium two-wheeled mobility. For Norton, it represents a powerful new resource to support its resurgence, ensuring that its next generation of motorcycles is backed by cutting-edge engineering and design expertise.
