Sam puts the DRIRIDER Urban Ladies gloves to the test, as a light summer mesh glove option with great comfort. Review by Samantha Kimber
Gloves aren’t an optional piece of gear for me and although I wear them every day I only use two pairs with the DRIRIDER Urban gloves a great addition.
My usual summer pair are a short, wrist-length, all leather pair with knuckle protection. They’re well worn-in now; they don’t pinch, are quick to put on and grip well. But, they’re slow to air-dry when I’ve been caught in wet weather.
I was looking forward to testing the new DRIRIDER Women’s Urban Gloves – as it gives me a second option in miserable weather during the summer months!
The DriRider Urban glove, also available in Men’s, is made from Clarino abrasion resistant mesh, featuring cowhide in all the crucial areas and Lycra between fingers. Altogether they feel soft, flexible and lightweight.
The mesh is also a great addition, allowing airflow and breathability. The palms feature textured materials for grip and they are lined with polyester, which is a great wicking material for the warmer months and soft on your skin. Although I haven’t had the chance to test in wet weather, as a synthetic leather I know the Clarino will stay soft when wet.
As a basic glove they lack the more protective features – no wrist protection, knuckle protection, or webbing between fingers, but they’re a good option if you’re looking for something for use when high-performance protection might not be necessary, like for peak-hour commutes when you’re in need of something comfortable and flexible.
For women, they’re available in small, medium and large. I typically take a large due to the length and felt the size spot on; no extra length or bunched-up fabric at the tips or between fingers or under the palm, neither too tight nor restrictive of movement.
I love the look of the gloves. They’re available in black and black and white. I personally like the white racing stripes, they’re stylish, they’re reflective, they have that retro feel about them, but I’m cautious knowing how white discolours and I’m expecting a dullness to the stripes in time. Fortunately their classic styling matches all my current gear – I even feel cool wearing them.
The gloves feature a single Velcro wrist closure, with an elasticated wrist making it easy to put on and take off. This keeps things simple and relatively relaxed for those who don’t want to feel like they’re wearing gloves at all.
Retailing at $49.95 they’re a steal. They might not replace my current summer gloves which have additional protection, but I feel like I’ll be interchanging much more often. I’ll actually be able to give my regular gloves a breather and extend their life, for which I’m pretty thankful for.
In short, they’re the best solution for daily or short commutes, during summer and between seasons. They’re suitable for women who prefer a lightweight glove or are occasional riders, and are a good entry point for new riders who might not be used to wearing gloves yet but want to protect their hands.
