Leading the charge in the premier MX1 category was four-time Australian champion Dean Ferris, who marked his return to the Penrite ProMX Championship with an impressive overall podium finish in his debut outing with Penrite Racing Empire Kawasaki. Ferris delivered consistent results with 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the two motos, securing third overall for the round and immediately establishing himself as a title contender aboard the KX450.
Ferris’ teammate Brad West faced a tougher opening round, finishing 19th overall after moto results of 29th and 15th. Despite the result, the young Queensland rider showed flashes of speed and will be looking to bounce back strongly at the next round in Canberra.
In the MX2 category, the newly formed JPM 360 Kawasaki team made its debut with encouraging results. Ryan Alexanderson impressed with a strong charge through the field to finish fifth in Moto 2, following a 17th-place result in the opening race. Teammate Jayce Cosford posted consistent finishes of 15th and 18th, while Deegan Rose showed determination to recover from a Moto 1 DNF and finish 20th in Moto 2 in his first appearance in the class.
Team Green riders also made their presence felt in MX2, with Madoc Dixon producing consistent rides of ninth and 11th, while Haruki Yokoyama secured a solid 12th overall finish for the round.
In the MXW category, Taylah McCutcheon was the standout Australian performer, finishing fourth overall after an impressive third-place result in Moto 1. The event doubled as the FIM Oceania Women’s Motocross Cup, bringing together some of the top female riders from across the region.
Meanwhile in MX85, Cooper Jenkins showed steady improvement throughout the day, finishing 22nd and 21st in his two motos as he continues to build experience at national level competition.
With strong performances across multiple classes and valuable championship points already on the board, Kawasaki teams now shift their focus to Round Two in Canberra, where the momentum built at Wonthaggi will continue to drive their 2026 ProMX campaign.
