Kawasaki has unveiled the new 2027 Versys 900, a sporty multi-purpose motorcycle combining the Versys family’s touring versatility with the performance of a 948cc inline-four engine derived from the manufacturer’s Z Supernaked models. Press: Kawasaki Motors Australia

Positioned as the most sporting Versys yet created, the new model is designed to deliver a blend of everyday usability, long-distance comfort and engaging performance across a variety of riding conditions. Two versions will be available, the standard Versys 900 and the higher-specification Versys 900 SE, with both expected to arrive in Australia and New Zealand by mid-2027.

948cc Inline-Four Power

At the heart of the Versys 900 is a liquid-cooled 948cc inline-four engine producing a claimed maximum power output of 122PS (89.6kW) at 9500rpm and peak torque of 97.3Nm at 8000rpm.

Kawasaki says the engine combines strong, controllable low- and mid-range response with a free-revving character that builds smoothly towards the upper end of the rev range. The aim is to provide the distinctive performance and sound of a four-cylinder engine while remaining manageable in everyday riding.

That broad delivery is intended to suit a variety of applications, from commuting and urban riding to winding roads and longer touring journeys. The engine’s origins in Kawasaki’s Z Supernaked range also underline the Versys 900’s more performance-focused character compared with the traditional adventure-touring approach.

New Trellis Frame and Agile Handling

Kawasaki has developed an all-new trellis frame specifically for the Versys 900, with engineers concentrating on balancing rigidity, lightness and front-end feedback.

The main frame is designed to provide the rider with a high level of feel and precision, while the rear frame has been engineered to accommodate a passenger and touring luggage, including panniers and a top case.

A near 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution is intended to contribute to light, agile handling. The chassis is complemented by the Versys family’s established combination of long-travel suspension and 17-inch wheels, a configuration that supports road-focused handling while retaining the versatility expected of a multi-purpose motorcycle. The result is a package aimed at riders who want the comfort and practicality of a touring machine without giving up the more direct steering response and sporting feel associated with a road motorcycle.

Adjustable Ergonomics for Touring

The Versys 900 combines an upright riding position with several features designed to help riders find a comfortable position for different journeys.

A seven-position adjustable windscreen allows the rider to alter the screen height to suit conditions and personal preference. The seat height is also adjustable, ranging from 825mm to 845mm, providing flexibility for different rider sizes and preferences.

Kawasaki has shaped the fuel tank to help riders reach the ground while also providing a secure knee grip when riding more enthusiastically. Together, these features are intended to create a riding position that balances comfort, control and freedom of movement.

The combination of adjustable ergonomics, long-travel suspension and road-oriented wheels positions the Versys 900 as a motorcycle intended to move comfortably between daily riding, weekend trips and extended touring.

Advanced Rider Assistance Systems

One of the most significant technology developments is the introduction of Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS), making the Versys 900 the first model in the Versys family to receive the system.

The package includes Adaptive Cruise Control Lite (ACC Lite), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD). An Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) is also fitted, designed to alert following traffic during hard braking and help reduce the risk of a rear-end collision. These systems add another layer of assistance for touring and everyday riding, particularly on longer highway journeys and in busy traffic.

The Versys 900 also comes equipped with Kawasaki’s established electronic rider aids, including Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC), enhanced ABS, selectable power modes and integrated riding modes.

Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) is also included, allowing clutchless upshifts and downshifts to support smoother gear changes during both relaxed touring and more spirited riding.

Five-Inch TFT and Smartphone Connectivity

The cockpit features a 5-inch full-colour TFT instrument display, supporting smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology The App Motorcycle application. Turn-by-turn navigation is available through the display, adding practical functionality for riders exploring unfamiliar roads. Two display layouts can be selected to suit different preferences.

Type 1 emphasises engine-related information and the motorcycle’s performance character, while Type 2 prioritises navigation visibility and vehicle information. The ability to change between the layouts allows riders to tailor the display to the type of riding being undertaken.

The connectivity system adds to the Versys 900’s touring credentials, bringing navigation and connected functions into a compact instrument package.

Sporty Aero Edge Styling

The new Versys 900 introduces Kawasaki’s Aero Edge styling concept, creating a visual impression of lightness and airflow through the bodywork.

The design is intended to communicate the motorcycle’s agile character while giving it a more distinctly sporting appearance. Kawasaki has also developed a new accessory luggage system that integrates with the bodywork to maintain the motorcycle’s streamlined appearance when equipped for touring.

The optional luggage package comprises a 47-litre top case and two 32-litre panniers, providing practical storage for longer trips while retaining the model’s sporty styling.

The standard Versys 900 will be available in Metallic Spark Black, while the Versys 900 SE will be offered in Plasma Lime Green and Metallic Spark Black.

Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE

Kawasaki will offer the new model in standard and SE versions, although further details on the differences between the two variants have not yet been confirmed in the initial announcement. The SE is distinguished by its Plasma Lime Green and Metallic Spark Black colour scheme, while the standard model is finished in Metallic Spark Black. Additional specification details, Australian pricing and local availability are expected to be announced closer to launch.

The new Versys 900 expands Kawasaki’s multi-purpose range with a combination of inline-four performance, touring-focused ergonomics, revised chassis engineering and a comprehensive electronic assistance package.

With Australian and New Zealand arrivals expected by mid-2027, more information on local specifications, pricing and purchase availability is anticipated closer to the launch. Kawasaki.com.au
