Yamaha Unveils Retro-Inspired 2027 XSR900 and XSR900 GP Colours
Yamaha Motor Australia has announced new YZF750 and Sonauto styled 1980s and 1990s era colour schemes for its 2027 XSR900 and XSR900 GP, bringing retro-inspired styling to the Sport Heritage range while leaving the mechanical packages unchanged….
The new liveries celebrate Yamaha’s design and racing history, with the standard XSR900 drawing inspiration from the legendary pink YZF750R of the mid-1990s, while the XSR900 GP pays tribute to former French Grand Prix rider Christian Sarron and the iconic Sonauto Yamaha race bikes of the 1980s. Both models continue to combine classic styling with Yamaha’s modern engineering and CP3 three-cylinder engine, offering riders a blend of heritage-inspired design and contemporary performance.
2027 Yamaha XSR900: 1990s Inspiration
The 2027 XSR900 receives a new Neon White colour scheme, inspired by the striking pink YZF750R that became a recognisable part of Yamaha’s sporting history during the 1990s.
The new design combines a white base with a silver chassis and bold pink accents, complemented by blue details across the fuel tank and side panels. The contrasting colours give the XSR900 a distinctive appearance while reinforcing its connection to Yamaha’s performance motorcycles of the era.
The updated livery brings a fresh look to the Sport Heritage roadster without altering its technical specification. The existing Midnight Black colour scheme will also remain available for 2027.
2027 Yamaha XSR900 GP: Racing Heritage
The XSR900 GP receives a new Legend Blue colour scheme inspired by the Sonauto Yamaha Grand Prix machines associated with Christian Sarron during the 1980s.
The design features the iconic blue base colour, complemented by light-blue speedblock graphics across the tank and side fairings. Yellow stripes provide additional contrast, while yellow racing-style numberplates on the front and seat cowl complete the period-inspired look.
Sarron’s racing colours have become an enduring part of Yamaha’s Grand Prix heritage, and the new livery brings that history to the modern XSR900 GP’s retro racing design.
The existing Legend Yellow colour scheme will continue alongside the new Legend Blue option.
Modern Performance, Classic Style
While the new colours are the headline change for 2027, Yamaha says both Sport Heritage models remain mechanically unchanged. At the heart of each motorcycle is Yamaha’s CP3 three-cylinder engine, which provides the performance behind the XSR900 and XSR900 GP’s sporty riding character. Both models combine this modern powerplant with styling that draws directly from Yamaha’s historic road and racing motorcycles.
The updates continue Yamaha’s approach of combining contemporary motorcycle technology with design cues that appeal to riders who appreciate the brand’s heritage. Rather than simply recreating older motorcycles, the XSR range applies familiar colours and graphics to modern machines.
