Adelaide’s 2027 MotoGP street race has cleared a major hurdle, with federal environmental approval confirmed, community consultation findings released and MotoGP officials visiting the city ahead of the championship’s arrival. Press: MotoGP PressThe Adelaide Circuit Redevelopment has received federal environmental clearance, providing a pathway for the project to progress towards hosting the world’s first MotoGP city street race from November 12–14, 2027. The decision under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 means the project is considered a ‘Not a Controlled Action if taken in a Particular Manner’, provided specified environmental protection measures are implemented. The milestone coincides with the release of the South Australian Government’s What We Heard and Next Steps report, following three weeks of community consultation that attracted more than 6,000 survey responses and 1,000 written submissions.

Feedback focused heavily on protecting mature trees, maintaining the open character of the Adelaide Park Lands and providing additional community recreation facilities. The circuit layout will remain unchanged, while gravel run-off areas will be returned to grass outside motorsport events. The new pit and paddock hardstand will also accommodate community sporting facilities, including pickleball, basketball and tennis courts.

Premier Peter Malinauskas said the approval and consultation results represented an important milestone. “This is an important milestone for the Adelaide Circuit Redevelopment, with federal environmental clearance confirmed and community feedback helping inform the next stage of planning as we count down to MotoGP arriving in Adelaide in November 2027,” Malinauskas said.

Environmental considerations remain a major part of the project. Of the 8,895 trees currently within the circuit precinct, 95 per cent are expected to remain untouched. The project requires the removal of 377 trees, including 42 significant trees, while another 88 will be transplanted. The State Government has committed to replacing every removed tree at a ratio of 10:1, delivering at least 3,393 additional trees, alongside 123,000 understorey plantings.
