Harley-Davidson Australia and New Zealand Master Technician Of The Year 2024 took place this week at Harley HQ in Sydney, with three top qualifiers pushing to the afternoon of the final day...
The Harley-Davidson Master Technician Of The Year 2024 was held this week and the final day was Tuesday, when some local motorcycle media including BikeReview.com.au were invited to watch the final showdown live as it happened in Harley’s HQ in Sydney…
Such is the pride within Harley-Davidson that decades ago The Company created their own University to train all employees of Harley-Davidson in how to be the best at what they do. This isn’t limited to mechanical knowledge, it is far wider in its reach to include sales, clothing and merchandise, accessories, media and pretty much every aspect of the Harley-Davidson business.

This type of training goes on through Harley-Davidson Australia which is part of the parent company. HDA was established in 2006 with its state of the art building and training facility in Sydney. 2007 saw the start of the HD University training programs. I’m very proud to be part of that. I was the original Trainer for Australia and New Zealand, having gone through the University in Harley-Davidson Headquarters in Milwaukie in mid 2007.
The intensity of the training back then was immense with months of study and assignments to get to that stage of Master Technician and then Trainer for Australia and New Zealand, so I am all too familiar in what is required to be a Master Technician here in Australia for Harley-Davidson.
Recently the Master Technician of the Year 2024 competition was held at HDA headquarters. The competition was over a number of days with multiple tasks being performed by the competing technicians. First they all had to qualify with multiple assignments conducted in their own time, a total of at least seven assignments needed to be completed and passed with high scores before they were eligible for the The Master Technician competition.
2024 Harley-Davidson ANZ Master Technician Finalists
Ben Adams from Road and Sport Harley-Davidson NZ
Paul Beebe from Fraser Group
Daniel Dixon from Central Coast Harley-Davidson
The final day was open for the media to attend, and I went along for BikeReview to cover the final tests and see who would be crowned “Master Technician 2024”…
The importance of this cannot be overlooked, the benefits are ultimately for the customer…
It must emphasised that this is an extremely prestigious award that only the very best in the country can aspire to. Master Technician carries enormous weight within Harley-Davidson and within the Harley-Davidson dealer network in Australia and New Zealand.
To master your skills to come out the overall winner of the competition is a real credit to the participants in their dedication to becoming a Master Technician, let alone winning the competition. The importance of this cannot be overlooked, the benefits are ultimately for the customer to know that the Technician working on their Harley-Davidson is trained to an extreme standard. Customers who are aware of this take solace that their pride and joy is being looked after properly.
The honours this year went to Ben Adams from Road and Sport Harley-Davidson, New Zealand, for his near perfect scores. This is also Ben’s second year winning the coveted prize. Second place went Paul Beebe and third to Daniel Dixon, there was only 4 points between all three! An extremely tight competition that just shows the high level that it is run at…
Trophies were awarded to all three competitors with Ben also receiving a magnificent leather toolkit from one of the sponsors of the event, Snap On Tools ANZ. It was great to see the delight in all three highly talented technicians when receiving their awards, it was very clear that all of them were extremely proud of how they performed.
What a fantastic initiative from Harley-Davidson to have such a worldwide recognised training system that gives great credit to its technicians and staff. Pride, passion and tradition is what Harley-Davidson does so well for not only themselves but for the owners of Harley-Davidsons around the world. Great event, and great results. So, can Ben Adams make it a trifecta in 2025? The challenge is set!
“Harley-Davidson’s annual Technician and Master Technician of the Year recognition program is a measure of the best of the best and I’m delighted to once again marvel at the quality and craft of these technicians. We are proud of the network and the unparalleled skills they have when it comes to looking after our customers motorcycles.
“The years of training and investment our dealers and staff make to ensure the highest degree of care and service is delivered every time our customers service their bikes. Well done and thank you to each one of our technicians”, said Nigel Keough, Managing Director of Harley-Davidson ANZ.
“These events remind us that the Harley-Davidson community is so much bigger than one dealership or HOG Group,” said Ben Adams, 2024 Master Technician of the Year Winner. “It has been an unforgettable experience to participate in this highly prestigious event and to walk away crowned Master Technician of the Year is worth its weight in gold! I would also like to congratulate Paul and Dan on making it to the final”
