Long Termer Update: Living with the Yamaha MT-07 Tracer every day and ideal first accessory options, such as Oggy Knobbs for preventing drop damage!
With the kilometers clicking up on our Long Term Yamaha MT-07 Tracer, we look at the bike as a daily run-around and at the first accessories we’ll be fitting from Kenma Australia, including the Australian made Oggy Knobbs, Axle Oggys, Promoto Fender Eliminator and Case Saver.
The Tracer continues to impress since ourĀ test feature, with the bike losing none of that ‘new bike’ feeling and without any issues popping up.
With the bike being used weekly for photo shoots, and commuting, the panniers have remained invaluable, and while not large enough to take a full camera bag, they’ll take a smaller camera bag. We also stuffed them full of the smaller items picked up from Kenma, such as the DNA airfilter and Promoto Fender Eliminator and case saver. They are great for grabbing a six pack of cold beers on the way home, or a few groceries.
The waterproof covers have also been pulled out on occasion and did their job well, despite taking a little bit of time to get fitted and seated properly, ensuring the contents of the bags remained totally dry, including in a few major downpours.
Comfort remains a strength with the level of performance more than enough for everyday duties. It’s actually quite easy to find yourself looking down at the speedo and needing to reign the bike back in, it’s deceptively fast and because it is quiet and has tall gearing speed can creep up.
Next up will be a proper touring ride, covering 500+km in a day and seeing how the suspension and comfort fares over a full day in the saddle.
MT-07 Tracer accessories: Promoto, Oggy Knobbs, DNA airfilter
For those new to motorcycling who may be considering the MT-07 Tracer, or really any first option, Oggy Knobbs are a set of ‘sliders’ or bolt on protection for motorcycles, that are particularly useful for new riders who are likely to drop their motorcycle. Even simply losing your footing and dropping a bike can create expensive repairs, with Oggy Knobbs often preventing anything but a scraped ‘bar-end or mirror tip.
Promoto is the Australian company that manufactures Oggy Knobbs as well as a range of other accessories, with everything made here in Australia.
Oggy Knobb kits vary but they are often available in no-cut options which simply bolt straight on, while Axle Oggys do as the same suggests, bolting through the axle and protecting your forks, brakes, swingarm and wheels. These are less likely to come into play in a simple drop situation and are designed to protect from costly damage if you and the bike go down on the move.
We’ve also received a DNA airfilter kit from Kenma Australia, and we’ll be dynoing the MT-07 Tracer at Sydney Dyno before and after fitment to see just what kind of performance gain there is to be had with this modification.
Next update we’ll be going over installation of these accessories and full details on each, so stay tuned. For more information about Oggy Knobbs, Axle Oggys, Promoto and DNA airfilters, you can check out the Kenma Australia website, which includes a number of other motorcycle accessories, or ask at your local motorcycle shop.
