It took just one viewing of a bLU cRU Oceania Junior Cup race video for Elijah Andrew to switch from motocross to the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul. A great stepping stone series for young riders to begin their racing careers.

The OJC is a great series for young riders to start their racing careers in with it being recognised by Dorna sports.

Until this year, the 11-year-old from Marayong, NSW, had never ridden a road bike, but had competed in motocross and Minikhana since the age of four where he started on a PW50 before progressing to a KTM 50, KTM 65, Husqvarna 65 and a Husqvarna 85.

“My dad showed me a video of an Oceania Junior Cup race and he asked me if I wanted to do it one day and I said yes and he signed me up straight away… It was very hard at first, I had to learn the bike, the riding style, the gears and the handlebars, as it was the opposite of what I was used to on a dirt bike.” said Elijah.

Elijah got used to the Yamaha R15 on his first outing at Winton Motor Raceway earlier this year.

Elijah’s first weekend on track, Round 2 of ASBK at Winton Motor Raceway, may have been a learning experience but he impressed straight away, smashing his lap times by more than 30 seconds from the first time on track to the end of race weekend.

Elijah’s goal for the year was to score a top ten finish in the Championship. At Round 3, at Wakefield Park Raceway, he not only improved his lap times in every session but scored his first top ten finish – a ninth – in race 2 at Wakefield.
