BMW Motorrad Australia announced its new R 12 G/S back in April, reviving the classic enduro spirit of the original R 80 G/S with modern engineering and authentic retro styling. We ran a detailed article on the great looking bike, but here is a reminder of what is to come…

Priced from $23,990 plus on-road costs, the R 12 G/S features an air/oil-cooled 1,170cc boxer engine producing 80kW (109hp) at 7,000rpm and 115Nm at 6,500rpm, paired with shaft drive and BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

Drawing design inspiration from BMW’s pioneering 1980 R 80 G/S, the new model includes cross-spoke wheels (21-inch front, 17-inch rear standard), long-travel adjustable suspension, and a classic round LED headlight with modern X-shaped signature. The Enduro variant features an 18-inch rear wheel, off-road tyres, engine guard, and handlebar risers for added ruggedness.

Standard rider aids include ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Engine Drag Torque Control, and Riding Modes (Rain, Road, Enduro), with Riding Modes Pro available on the Enduro variant.

Seat height is 860mm as standard, rising to 875mm with the Enduro Package Pro. Colour options include Night Black Matt, Light White, and Sandrover Matt under Option 719. Markus Lederer, Head of Boxer Series, said: “The R 12 G/S offers puristic off-road fun while capturing the spirit of our legendary enduro heritage.”

Customer deliveries are expected from mid-year. Riders can contact their local BMW Motorrad dealer for detailed specifications, colour availability, and pre-order options here
