Michelin announced as title sponsor for Phillip Island
Dorna Sports is delighted to announce that MotoGP tyre supplier Michelin will be the title sponsor for the 2018 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, taking top billing at one of the blue riband events of the year once again.
The Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will take place from the 26th to 28th October at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and will surely prove one of the most spectacular races on the calendar.
Michelin are the official tyre supplier to the premier class of Grand Prix racing, MotoGP, and have been since making a return to the Championship in 2016. After that first season proved one of the most exciting ever with nine different winners, 2017 upped the ante even further with an all-time classic duel to the line between eventual Champion Marc Marquez and challenger Andrea Dovizioso.
The stunning racing has already begun to define this Michelin-shod era as one of the best ever – something that shows no signs of slowing – and this title sponsor agreement makes for another important addition to the relationship between Michelin and MotoGP.
Matthew Ye, Senior Vice President Business Line 2 Wheels Worldwide, says: “Michelin is active in motorsport in order to take its technologies forward and provide its consumers with the very best products. A high number of Michelin hypersport tyre ranges benefit from the brand’s winning technologies. Our association with MotoGP has helped us to build brand awareness in many key high-growth markets. Our continuing involvement with the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix as title sponsor provides us with a first class platform to address biking enthusiasts across the world.”
Pau Serracanta, Managing Director at Dorna Sports, adds: “In their capacity as tyre supplier, Michelin are one of the foundations of MotoGP, so it’s fantastic news for both parties that the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will have Michelin as the title sponsor once more. Phillip Island always produces some of the best racing of the season, and it is fitting that a partner such as Michelin – both tyre supplier to MotoGP and the newly-announced MotoE World Cup – will take top billing for the event.”
As MotoGP prepares to fire up for 2018, the story of the season remains to be written – but the Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is certain to be one of its most exciting chapters once again.
