Australia’s motorcycle market recorded a strong first half of 2026, with 46,023 motorcycles sold between January and June – an 8.2 per cent increase compared with the 42,549 units sold during the same period in 2025, according to FCAI data.

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) says the result reflects renewed strength in key areas of the motorcycle market, with the biggest growth coming from off-road motorcycles. Off-road sales reached 20,417 units for the first half of the year, up 21.6 per cent on the 16,807 sold during the corresponding period in 2025.

The strongest individual growth came from kids’ motorcycles and trail bikes. Kids’ bike sales increased by 32 per cent year-on-year, while trail motorcycle sales more than doubled, climbing by 131 per cent compared with the first half of 2025. FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said the continued improvement in off-road sales was now driving the overall market result.

The broader market was considerably more stable. Road motorcycle sales totalled 16,170 units, down just 0.5 per cent on the 16,254 recorded in the first half of 2025, while scooter sales fell 2.7 per cent to 2,672 units. Off-highway vehicle sales were virtually unchanged, with 6,764 units sold compared with 6,760 during the same period last year.

The first-half result is the strongest for the Australian motorcycle market since 2022, although it remains below the exceptional sales levels recorded during the pandemic period. With off-road demand providing the major growth engine and road motorcycle sales remaining broadly steady, the market enters the second half of 2026 in a stronger position than it was 12 months ago.
