Yamaha Strengthens Bonds at We R Family YZF-R9 Event
SMSP played host to Yamaha Motor Australia’s latest immersion event, the We R Family YZF-R9 Experience, where dealers and staff from Australia and New Zealand got firsthand time on the new triple-cylinder YZF-R9. The two-day gathering on the South Circuit was a blast! Press: YMA Insider
Stepping Into the Customer’s Shoes-
The event, organised by Yamaha’s Land Mobility team, offered attendees the chance to ride the YZF-R9 along with semi-automatic models featuring the Y-AMT gearbox, such as the MT-07, MT-09 and Tracer 9 GT+.
Before track action, presentations and briefings, including from MotoSchool CEO Haydan Parker—set the scene, focusing on both performance and safety. Off track, a trade village gave access to Yamaha’s departments like Parts & Accessories, Financial Services and Ficeda Accessories, paired with a pop-up café for informal conversations.

Feedback: Power Meets Confidence-
Riders came away impressed. The YZF-R9 earned praise for its braking feel, smooth power delivery and quickshifter performance. One Dealer Relationship Manager said the bike is “confidence-inspiring.” Another staffer, accustomed to Yamaha’s CP3 platform, noted that the R9’s Supersport chassis and setup “bring out the best in it.” Even Australian Superbike champion Mike Jones weighed in, appreciating how the R9 feels both street-friendly and track-capable.
It Takes a Team Behind the Scenes-
Pulling off this immersive event took effort. Yamaha’s Land Mobility group managed logistics, track briefings, dealer coordination, product displays and more over two full days. Matthew Ferry, General Manager Sales & Marketing – Land Mobility, remarked that while organising is intense, seeing staff and dealers engaged with the product makes it all worthwhile. Safety was also a priority, and the event passed smoothly thanks to rigorous prep and oversight.
Why It Matters-
Events like We R Family YZF-R9 go beyond product demo days. For Yamaha, letting dealers and internal staff experience riding the machines creates better understanding across the chain—from sales to service. It helps everyone speak from experience when talking to customers. With the YZF-R9 marking Yamaha’s newest Supersport entry, that kind of alignment is especially valuable.
