Select YZ65 riders enjoyed the experience of a lifetime after signing up to compete in the YZ65 Cup at the World Supercross event at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium recently. 20 YZ65 riders aged between seven and 12 years old were chosen to race in front of a packed stadium! Press Release: Yamaha ANZ.

Riders and families travelled from far and wide to meet their heroes and race under the big bLU cRU awning for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But if riders from WA or NT thought they may have travelled the farthest to the Melbourne event, that honour went to Djanoko Mahija Ariwibowo who flew over from Yogyakarta, Indonesia for the race. Known by his Instagram handle as Jetnoko, the young gun got off to a great start settling into second place. A crash put Jetnoko on the back foot but he showed plenty of grit to recover and place fourth.

Winner on the night was Blake Bohannon, followed by Nate Hargreaves in second and Ryder Trickey in third place. But the night was more about the unique experience of racing at a global SX event in front of a worldwide audience – an opportunity not afforded to many riders.

“My nerves were epic! The racing was intense, the track was next level for our little 65 race wheels and so many friendships were formed that will last for many years to come,” says Cody Jackson from the Gold Coast.  “Big thanks to everyone who made this possible. A fall on the last lap meant a fourth place but the crowd was amazing. This is the best circuit I have ever ridden, see you next race!”

“We were treated like superstars for the weekend. We were given a money-can’t buy-experience and memories that last a lifetime. Thank you!” says nine-year-old Lilly Lewis.

“Our aim is to reward families who have started their MX journeys on YZ65 by offering them a unique experience. The YZ65 Cup series delivers this by showcasing this next generation of dirt bike stars alongside professional racers and in front of a big crowd. The event is designed to create memories that last a lifetime,” says Jake Belford, YMA’s Customer Activation Co-ordinator. “Plus to be able to offer a spot to an international rider like Jetnoko shows what the bLU cRU is all about,”
