YMF R3 Cup & GP Juniors Mix it up at Wakefield
Yamaha Motor Finance R3 CUP
Fifteen Yamaha YZF- R3’s gridded up in the unfavourable weather on Friday for the six lap Yamaha Motor Finance R3 Cup that saw hot contender Jack Passfield (Stay Upright, Yamaha YZF- R3) in a safe lead for the majority of circulation.
Passfield was consistent on the tarmac and rode to the conditions, eventually clenching victory from South Australian Ty Lynch (Adelaide Motorcycle Recovery, Yamaha YZF-R3) and Tommy Edwards (Alpinestars, Yamaha YZF-R3).
A notable fourth place was obtained from a young Max Stauffer (Yamaha), son of multiple Australian Superbike rider, Jamie Stauffer. Chis Dobbie (AMCN, Yamaha YZF-R3) suffered an unfortunate DNF after a slight off road excursion curtailed his efforts for the day.
On Sunday after a brief warm up session on track, Race Two of the closely fought Yamaha R3 Cup will kick off at 10:15am with Race Three is scheduled for 2:45pm.
GP Juniors Cup
Tommy Edwards (Yamaha Motor Australia, Yamaha YZF-R15) has taken pole position in the GP Juniors Cup class from his time in Qualifying One. Edwards posted a 1:35.793 to go three seconds quicker than Harry Khouri (Excite Motorsports Penrith, Yamaha R15) who sealed his best time in Qualifying Two (Q2). Most of the field were able to improve their lap times in Q2, but Edwards Qualifying One performance was enough to clench the pole position outright.
The young Juniors have had to contend with difficult conditions throughout the duration of Round Two so far, but have done well to set respectable lap times and feel out the circuit given the wind and rain. Race 2 of the GP Juniors Cup is scheduled for 11:40am tomorrow and should prove to be a fantastic six lap two -wheeled show down for the Yamaha YZF-R15 riders.
Race One of the GP Junior was wet to say the least, suiting Tommy Edwards down to the ground. The New South Wales youngster podiumed first with a, just ahead of Northern Territorian, Joel Kelso (JDS Moto Yamaha YZF-R15) in second and Queenslander John Lytras (Caboolture Yamaha, Yamaha YZF-R15) placing third.
GP Juniors Cup Race Two will start at 11:40am tomorrow, Race Three is the last race of the day at 4:35pm local time. Both will be run over six laps a piece.
