Ditching the sneakers doesn't mean you have to buy big, bulky full-size motorcycle boots. DriRider's IRIDE 3 riding shoe offers protection without compromising on that all-important style! Words: Jack Maguire Pics: Jack, Heather

Sometimes it’s tempting to go the easy route and throw on a pair of sneakers because they obviously offer greater feel, convenience and style over big motorcycle boots – but they offer no protection. DriRider’s IRIDE 3 shoes on the other hand, tick all of these boxes.

The IRIDE 3 riding shoes offer a great amount of protection without compromising on style and comfort.

The IRIDE 3 riding shoes offer a great amount of protection without compromising on style and comfort.

These riding shoes offer some of the protection a full-size riding boot does, but without compromising on the comfort, style and convenience of a regular shoe. While perhaps they are a little bulkier than your usual shoe – paired with riding pants or jeans, the larger size goes unnoticed. Constructed of real leather, these shoes look stylish and the build quality is superb! These shoes are still in great condition after months of daily use in both rain and shine.

Slipping the IRIDE 3 shoes on for the first time, they had the familiar feel of a boot in many ways and were a little uncomfortable. However, once they had broken in after just a few rides, I would take them over a normal pair of shoes any day. For starters, they are waterproof – utilising a HIPORA waterproof and breathable liner – which meant that I could wear them anywhere and whenever, regardless of the weather. They also offer supreme warmth to that of a regular shoe.

The only drawback is that not being a full size boot, if the waterproof liner in your pants does not reach over the boot in wet weather, you’re going to have water leaking in and soaked feet! Otherwise, the polyester lining with open cell foam makes these shoes as comfy as sneakers, provided you don’t accidentally get it soaked in water.

The IRIDE 3 offers good protection – with a moulded Nylon ankle guard, ‘Techno GI’ thermoplastic toecap and heel and an anti-twist moulded Nylon mid sole. That’s a hell of a lot more protection than any sneaker offers. Not only that, but it features a vulcanised high-density anti-slip sole that minimised the feel of vibration from the motorcycle, and ensured my foot didn’t slip when coming to a stop in the wet weather at slippery intersections.

Shoes so good that both Jeff and Nick swear by them – and wear them as regular shoes!
