If you're looking for a small, secure luggage solution for your Ninja 400, Z900 or Ninja 650, then check out the genuine Kawasaki Tank Bag!
For those after a tank bag for their Ninja 400, or alternatively a Ninja 650 or Z900, Kawasaki have their genuine accessory option, providing a sporty, low profile offering with a mounting harness making for easy fitment.
The semi-rigid nylon bag construction is a good fitĀ for the bike, despite the Ninja 400 being quite a narrow and small machine in reality – even though Kawasaki have done a great job giving it that bigger bike feel. Even though this tank bag is only a 4L capacity, it’s about the max I’d want on this kind of machine, and provides enough storage for a good bit of kit.
The grey material of the tank bag also keeps it downstated, and features reflecting piping and the Kawasaki logo, with good build quality, and a clear top section idea for a map or smart phone for navigation. Towards the front of the bag there’s also a small pouch which contains a waterproof over-bag, which can be secured over the bag in wet weather to help keep water out.
There’s a divider in the main section of the bag as well, helping keep things separated, with a hole that will take the plug of a set of earphones, or a hydration system by the looks of it, making for a good bit of extra versatility on the long rides. There’s also a shoulder strap included, which you can clip on, but to be honest I’ve stuck with just using the handle.
Actually fitting the tank bag to the bike is also easy with two clips at the front of the bag, and a rear zip, as well as velcro on the underside of the bag, and behind the zip. The bag harness meanwhile bolts on at the rear of the tank and runs under the front of the frame, so it’s probably something you won’t be taking off the bike between uses.
Now we’ve also got a Ventura rack fitted to the Ninja 400, which does the heavy lifting most of the time, but the tank bag has it’s place, especially if you’re keen to run your phone or GPS. I like having the screen located down on the tank, since it means the GPS isn’t in your face all the time, but that’s just me.
It’s also easy to simply unclip towards the headstock, to access the fuel cap, taking just a few seconds to get it out of the way, and is small enough not to be a nuisance off the bike.
Overall the Kawasaki Tank Bag is a nice piece of kit, especially for those who like genuine accessories. It’s on the pricey side at $319.99 RRP, plus $15.99 for the model specific bracket which are available for the Ninja 400, Z900 and Ninja 650, so it probably comes down to whether you’re happy to pay more for a more model specific setup.
