The 28th running of the Laverda Concours in Queensland was yet another success in 2016, with stunning motorcycles, great food and entertainment and plenty of industry stands. Photography: Kris Hodgson
The 2016 Laverda Concours, held at Cleveland Showground in Queensland has proven another success, despite poor weather in the preceding days managing to put a damper on things.
With rain continuing right up until the day before the event, Club Laverda Queensland were quick to confirm the event was on schedule on the Friday, with the Sunday of the event proving a great day, with overcast skies remaining dry. There’s no doubt however that the rain and cloud cover put a dent in the number of bikes represented, not to mention spectators numbers.
With that said the 2016 Laverda Concours was still a great success with a full showground towards lunch time, and an amazing line-up of bikes, with everything from stunningly restored Laverdas, like the Montjuic 500 pictured below, a huge array of Ducati’s and Moto Guzzi’s, and great representation from the Japanese and American categories. Not to mention some amazing customs like the Laverda Motodd, a Kawasaki 1100 drag bike, plus a range of Yamaha TRX customs and countless others.
Money was also being raised on the day for the Make a Wish Foundation, with a great sausage sizzle operating to help raise money and fill plenty of hungry attendees stomach’s, with live music by the Dave Ritter Brand creating a great environment.
The display area was also surrounded by a number of food and motorcycling stalls, with sponsor, Penrite, proudly displayed around the Showground and at a stand. Clubs were also heavily represented, with the Kawasaki Z Owners Club Qld, the Kobbers Kruiser-Klub, Â the VJMC (Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club), the Vincent HRD Owners Club, the Honda 750/4 S.O.H.C. Club, Ducati Owners Club of Queensland and Moto Guzzi Club of Qld.
For those looking for a new bike or accessories there was also plenty to check out, with Ricondi Racing Apparel, Team Moto with Triumph on display, a Royal Enfield stand from Urban Moto Imports, complete with an EBR and Dragster RR and Morgan & Wacker showing off Harley-Davidsons.
Plus an Aprilia and Moto Guzzi stand, Nemesis motorcycles, Zero Motorcycles, Mostyn Motorcycles, Eagle Rider Australia and Euro Twins Racing.
If you were inspired by some of the bike’s on display there was also Roberto’s Custom Powder and Rad Hard Chroming with some great examples of the work they’re able to do, for a hands on look at the end result.
Motorcycle Mad – Mechanical &Â Dyno Centre also had a dyno set up and were doing runs for those seriously interested in pursuing more power, with some massive clouds of exhaust gas occasionally to be seen as a motorcycle was run harder than it was used it!
Naturally the motorcycles were the main display with a great line-up of Laverdas, which had been mainly ridden to the show on display at the entrance, while the rest of the bikes could be viewed in the middle of the showground with some truly stunning machines.
Regardless of your personal obsession, brand or following, there was something on display for almost any rider, with a huge variety of prizes up for grabs, including 60 trophies and a prize of $2000 for the bike awarded Best in Show.
