We head to the Aussie Press Intro of the new Avenis 125 and take the sporty new Suzuki scoot for a quick spin. Check out the details and our video... Photography: Half Light, Russel Colvin

The Avenis 125 scooter has now been added to the Suzuki line-up and will be available from January for $4,890 R/A, with a 3-Year warranty and currently a free bike cover and hand guards for online orders. Last week we rode the Avenis, check out our video…

I had a really quick spin on the Avenis, which will join the Address 110, at the Suzuki Australian Press Intro held on the Western fringe of Newcastle City recently. Over a few awesome pizzas and some special beers (after the ride) we checked out the Avenis as well as the V-STROM 250SX (see Nick’s article on the V-STROM 250SX Press Intro here).

The Avenis is smooth and linear, with a nice CVT transmission and although not zippy, it does build speed well enough for outer urban use. The scooter I rode was not run in, so acceleration will improve with more hours of use. The top speed is supposed to be 90+km/h, which is good, and the small screen and frontal area gives good protection from the wind at cruising speeds. It’s a comfy little 125 all up.

I'm 187cm and I fit on the Avenis well. I like scooters, and I like the style and ergonomics of this one... Full review on the way.

There is enough room under the seat for a half face helmet, small jacket, laptop bag or some shopping. There is also a bottle holder in the console and a glove box, plus a 12v outlet and a bag hook. Fuel filling can be done externally, although one thing odd that I noticed it that the fuel cap is between the pillion grab rails, so it may be tricky to fit a top box, something that could be a deal breaker for many potential purchasers, but we will see what aftermarket option come about, I have seen some extended bracket options online, adapted from the SE Asian market Suzuki Raider R150 underbone items.

The outgoing Burgman 125 is four kilograms heavier than the new Avenis, and the Avenis is much sportier in design.

The Avenis LCD display is cool for a scooter dash. It is bigger than the Burgman 200 was back in the day, and larger than the Address 110. It has some extra features, such as fuel consumption and engine temperature. The headlights are stacked LED items and the indicators are integrated into the handlebar fairing for safety, and style. There is a centre-stand and a side-stand for ease of parking or for cleaning those mint cast alloy wheels. The brakes feature the Suzuki Linked Brake System and I was really impressed with their performance.

2023 SUZUKI AVENIS 125 TECH TALK

Comfortable, fun and well-appointed, Suzuki say the Avenis platform speaks of sharp lines, distinctive graphics, aerodynamic efficiency and a sporty edge. The machine also blends the latest technology and features such as Bluetooth connectivity, LED headlights and combined braking. The engine is based on a powerplant with a proven track record for both performance and reliability, already powering well over five million Suzuki scooters in Asian and Latin American markets since 2007.

A major factor in that bulletproof engineering is Suzuki’s ‘Eco Performance’ technology which optimises all aspects of engine efficiency and combines awesome acceleration – more than enough to ride with a pillion passenger– with low fuel consumption. The compact and light-weight low-friction engine has excellent durability, a long service life, low running costs and is easy to maintain.

The front fairing features vertically stacked LED headlights which are bright, compact and power efficient, while the highly visible front indicators are integrated into the handlebar cowl accompanied by a sleek smoked screen.

Cast aluminium wheels are light and add a stylish flair, and Suzuki’s Combined Brake System distributes appropriate force to both the front and rear wheels when the left brake lever is squeezed.

Suzuki say that the scooter’s slim design contributes to nimble handling on city streets, combined with ample ground clearance and a roomy floorboard with a unique cut-away design which makes it easier to plant both feet on the ground when stationary. Comfort is also a priority. The Avenis 125’s double-stitched two-tone seat is spacious, and the independent right and left aluminum grab handles add a level of stability for pillions.

The Avenis hinged tail-mounted fuel cap presents two main benefits: it facilitates easy refuelling because the seat doesn’t have to be opened, and there is no risk of spilling fuel on the floorboard or bags and other items that might be hanging from the carrying hooks or the floorboard.

The Avenis 125 has wide-ranging utility benefits, including 21.5L of underseat storage, a pair of handy front compartments with closable lids, a USB outlet for charging smartphones, and the Suzuki Easy Start System.

There’s a compact LCD screen, illuminated to maximise visibility both day and night. The suite of information includes the speedometer, clock, current fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, engine temperature, odometer, dual tripmeters, fuel gauge, battery voltage meter and oil change interval reminder. The Suzuki Eco Drive Indicator also lights up when the scooter is being ridden in a fuel-efficient manner.

The shutter concealing the ignition key hole can be opened quickly, even when wearing gloves, using a magnet mechanism coded to the owner’s key. Not only does this system help deter theft and tampering, it also includes a seat opener that eliminates the need to remove the key to access the underseat utility compartment.

The Avenis 125 is on sale online now for $3890 MSRP ($4890 Ride Away), supported by Suzuki’s three-year factory-warranty program (two standard and one bonus).
