Gear Review | MotoDry Rallye 2 Adventure Jacket, Long Term

After years riding mx and off-road, I had never owned or used an adventure-style jacket. So when the opportunity came up to try MotoDry’s Rallye 2, I was keen to see whether an adventure jacket could really work for someone used to the freedom of mx gear.

I did some research and soon realised that fellow BikeReview journalists Bernie Hatton and Paul Bailey both wear MotoDry Rallye 2 suits, and Zane Dobie, Tony Wilding and Kris Hodgson also all wore or still wear MotoDry adventure kit, so it was my natural choice. If it is good enough for those guys, it is clearly good stuff!

So last winter, I headed down to Bikers Gear Australia to pick up the Rallye 2 before putting it through its paces on my next enduro ride. Straight away, the black, sand and brown colour combination caught my eye. It has a rugged, adventure-inspired appearance without looking overly bulky or complicated.

The Rallye 2 is designed as an all-year jacket, and after a solid year using it, I can attest to that claim -and comfort is one of its strongest points, too. The soft mesh interior lining and ergonomic cut allow the jacket to sit naturally around the shoulders and torso, while the neoprene-edged collar helps prevent irritation during longer rides. The adjustable collar closure also does a good job of keeping wind and debris out, and after a year of solid use, there are virtually no signs of wear on my jacket.

It offers a good combination of comfort, ventilation, weather protection, storage and safety, making it a genuinely versatile option for riders who want one jacket capable of handling different conditions…

Ventilation is another area where MotoDry has clearly put plenty of thought into the design. Multiple vents across the chest, sleeves and rear allow the jacket to adapt to changing conditions. On warmer days, opening the vents provides plenty of airflow, which I particularly appreciated during slower, technical enduro sections where there isn’t always enough natural airflow to keep you cool.

When temperatures drop, the vents can be closed and the thermal liner installed, transforming the Rallye 2 into a much warmer jacket. If the weather really turns against you, the waterproof liner provides another layer of protection to help keep you dry when the rain starts coming down.

Coming from a motocross background, storage isn’t something I’ve traditionally given much thought to. I’m used to carrying everything I need in a backpack. The Rallye 2 changed my mind on that, with multiple waterproof pockets providing plenty of room for essentials such as my phone, gloves and tools. The pocket layout is practical, keeping everything secure while still allowing easy access when you’re off the bike.

Protection hasn’t been overlooked either. The Rallye 2 comes equipped with CE Level 2 armour in the shoulders and elbows, along with a HDF back protector. Reinforced panels add durability in key areas without making the jacket feel overly restrictive. I noticed this immediately when I headed out on an enduro bike, the jacket provided protection and warmth without limiting my movement.

The level of adjustability was another feature I really appreciated. Straps around the arms, waist and hips allow the fit to be fine-tuned depending on what you’re wearing underneath. Whether it’s a T-shirt during summer or a thicker layer in winter, once adjusted correctly the jacket sits securely without excess material flapping around at higher speeds.

After spending over a year in the MotoDry Rallye 2, I am genuinely surprised by how well it has suited my riding style. Coming from motocross gear, I initially expected an adventure jacket to feel bulky and restrictive, but the Rallye 2 proved otherwise. I love wearing it.
