Product Review: MotoDry AirMax Jacket

I was a little worried, I was heading to the launch of the new KTM 1290 Adventure, which was in the Blue Mountains and Sofala and the temperature was only two degrees in the morning. Lucky for me Jeff had managed to organise some riding gear from importer Moto National Accessories, just before I set off, so this would be my first chance to test it.

The stylish MotoDry Airmax jacket is the first I’ve used with three layers, the outer jacket and two removable inner layers, one waterproof and the other a thermal liner. I pulled out the layers by mistake as I hadn’t looked at what the temperature was going to be, but this gave me a chance to put them back in again.

This is a relatively easy job, the sleeves are held in by buttons which are colour coordinated so you don’t get the arms twisted in the sleeves, and the front is just zipped in – simple. The outer layer is made from 600D rated abrasion resistant material and has 1500D rated shoulder and elbow material. You also get CE armour shoulder and elbow protection and a HDF back protector. Other safety features are reflective stripes front and back, which really do work well.

During warm weather the inner liners can be removed to leave the outer jacket, this is fitted with hi-flow air mesh panel’s front and rear, which allows the cooler air to circulate through the jacket keeping you cool.

The jacket has no shortage of pockets, the outer ones feature water resistant zippers, while the inner ones are fastened with Velcro, you even get pockets in the liners. One feature I really like is the mobile phone pocket on the left wrist, it’s big enough to fit a large smart phone and if you want there is a connector for the built in ear phones. The pocket is clear so if you have your phone facing up you can see who’s calling you or what song is playing.

Another feature I like is the collar, it has built in magnets the allow you to ride with it open, while the magnets hold the collar back out of the way so it’s not flapping on your chin.

So how did the MotoDry Airmax go in almost freezing temperatures, well, it’s really comfy right from the first time I put it on and when everyone else was running towards the fire to warm themselves at lunch time, I can honestly say that I was a warm as toast.

The MotoDry Airmax is by far the warmest Jacket I’ve ever owned and at only $249.95 it’s an absolute bargain. Unfortunately at the time of writing I have not had chance to test the jackets waterproof capabilities so I can’t comment as yet on that.
