The 2015 Weld West State Road Racing Championships Round 1
The Weld West State Road Racing Championships got underway on the 26th April in perfect conditions at Barbagallo Raceway.
The Weld West Superbike Championship was for the main part contested by five riders at the front in Ralph Mammoliti (Trakdayz Kawasaki ZX-10), Cameron Stronach (Northside Timber Flooring Kawasaki ZX-10), Anthony McFadden (MCB Sports BMW S 1000 RR), Adam Chambers (HTR Kawasaki ZX-10) and Ben Stronach (Holdfast BMW S 1000 RR). Adam Senior who is usually amongst this group had a day to forget when he ‘lunched a gearbox’ at Skyline during the second race.
As most local fans would know Cameron Stronach is usually on a BMW, but at Friday’s Tuning Day he seized his machine and was able to race on Sunday thanks to the generosity of Education Officer Frank Gibbins who loaned him his Kawasaki.
The main ides for the day was for Stronach to circulate and gain some valuable points towards his title defence, but the bike was so good he was able to challenge the front runners and won the second race.
Mammoliti took the first win of the season with Superbike newcomer Chambers taking second place with Cameron Stronach third. The second race went to Stronach with Mammoliti second and McFadden third. In the final race Mammoliti and Stronach went head to head with Mammoliti prevailing over the 8 lap journey, McFadden overcame Stronach to take the runner-up spot with Stronach holding on for the minor podium place. Mammoliti leads the championship on 70 points, Stronach is second on 61 points and McFadden is third on 55 points.
Chambers is fourth on 52 points with Ben Stronach fifth on 50 points. Adam Chambers has a perfect score to lead the ‘B’ Grade Series and Alex Scaglioni likewise has a perfect score to lead the ‘C’ Grade Series.
The Hughes Supersport Championship provided some of the most exciting racing with five riders vying for the honours at the front of the field. Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) along with fellow Kawasaki rider Livio Zampieri (MCB Sports Kawasaki ZX-6) and Leigh Boujos (JB Racing Yamaha R6) took the major honours on the day but they had plenty of opposition from Tim Boujos (JB Racing Yamaha R6) and Jack Twisse (One 2 One Yamaha R6) who did everything in their power to keep the top three honest. Van Vuuren took the chequered flag in the first two races with Zampieri second in both and Leigh Boujos third.
The first race only ran five laps and half points were awarded. The final race was an absolute cracker with the three above mentioned riders having to battle for the podium with Tim Boujos determined to throw a spanner in the works and he almost succeeded but unfortunately he slid out at the bottom of the hill on the seventh lap allowing Zampieri through to take the win from Van Vuuren with Leigh Boujos again taking the minor podium position.
Van Vuuren leads outright with 57.5 points he also leads the ‘B’ Grade Series. Zampieri is second on 55 points and Leigh Boujos is third on 45 points. Ray Tschorn leads the ‘C’ Grade Series with 57.5 points.
The Sidecar State Championship was run over two races at Rd 1 and Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman got their season off to a great start with two solid wins. Darryn Walker/Justin Winchester took second place with defending champions Murray Stronach/Joanne Thompson in third place.
In the second race Joyce/Blackman showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels taking the win by a staggering 28 seconds from Graeme Evans/Eamon Mulholland with Des Harvey/Gary Cushnahan in third place. Evans/Mulholland rode a great race having been back as far as fifth with only three laps to run. Joyce/Blackman have 50 points, Evans/Mulholland are on 36 and Harvey/Cushnahan are sitting in third place with 35 points.
In the Fastline 125GP Championship it was once again dominated by defending champion Scott Pettit (Speciality Services Air Con Honda RS 125) with three comprehensive wins on the day. This was probably Scott’s only ride in the class at State level in 2015 as he is set down to ride an R1 for the remainder of the domestic season. Dave Doughty (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) and David Manson (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) shared the minor podium places between them over the three races. Doughty scored two second places and a third whilst Manson had a second and two third places. Pettit leads on 75 points with Doughty second on 58 and Manson third on 56 points.
The Helmet House 300 Series provided excellent racing and Tim Boujos (JB Racing Ninja 300) made the most of the two races with two wins, but he won’t have it all his own way with Michelle Marais (SP Racing Ninja 300) having a pair of second places but she pushed Boujos all the way. Joel Hunter (RAM Motorsport Ninja 250) was third in the first race and in the second Lachlan Hickey (JB Racing Ninja 250) took the minor podium position in just his second outing in the class. Boujos has a perfect score of 50 points with Marais on 40 and Hickey third on 35 tied with Hunter.
In the Cully’s Clubman 600 Tommy King (Yamaha R6) and Geoff Booth (HTR Yamaha R6) dominated the three races, with King taking three wins and Booth three second places. Three riders got a minor podium each Scott McCue in the first, Graham Jeanes in the second and Paul Wood in the third. King has 75 points, Booth 60 and Jeanes is third on 50 points.
The Chain Reaction Clubman 1000 Steve Barrington (Yamaha R1) Johan Mouton (Badger Racing KTM 1190) and Tim de Bruyn (Kawasaki ZX-10) dominated the first two races. But in the third Barrington won from Daniel Rignall (Carpet Liquidators Honda 1000) and Brian Dick (Champion Ride Days Honda 1000). Barrington leads the Series with 75 points, Mouton is second with 57 amd Rignall is third on 54 points.
The 2015 Weld West State Road Racing Championships Round 2
The 21st June saw the running of the second round of the Weld West State Road Racing Championships at Barbagallo Raceway and what a contrast it was from the recent State Rounds with atrocious weather conditions greeting the riders on Sunday morning. The weather over the entire day left riders in two minds as to tyre choices with intermittent heavy showers the main feature of a cold and miserable day at the track.
As always the feature races were the Weld West Superbike State Championship and despite the weather the riders put on a spectacular display of riding. Cameron Stronach (Holdfast Kawasaki ZX-10) went into the round in second place in the championship and was determined to be right at the pointy end of the field.
He was still riding the Kawasaki of Frank Gibbins and right from the start he made his intentions clear with Ralph Mammoliti (Jimmal Bolts Kawasaki ZX-10) they broke away from the field and set a cracking pace despite the conditions.
Also in the lead group was Anthony McFadden (MCB Sports BMW S1000RR) and Chris Brown (Kawasaki ZX-10). As the race progressed Mammoliti notably dropped off the pace eventually finishing in sixth place, due to a ‘fogged visor’ he was not the only one with several riders failing to finish.
At the chequered flag it was Cameron Stronach from McFadden with Brown finishing in third place.
The second race again saw the main contenders break away from the pack with Cameron Stronach again the pace setter from Brown and McFadden, that was the way they finished with Mammoliti in fourth and Ben Stronach fifth.
The final race and with everything to race for the start was going to be important, when the lights went out Cameron Stronach appeared to get bogged down and went into turn 1 back in around fourth place with the lead going to brother Ben. Mammoliti and McFadden were again in the mix but Ben Stronach was not going to be denied his moment of glory and stormed to victory from Mammoliti and Cameron Stronach with McFadden fourth and Brown fifth.
Cameron Stronach won the day with 68 points from Ben Stronach and Anthony McFadden tied on 55 points, Chris Brown was fourth just a solitary point behind and Mammoliti rounded out the top five on 52 points.
The Championship lead also changed with Cameron Stronach on top with 129 points just seven points ahead of Mammoliti with McFadden third on 110 points.
Chris Brown holds the lead in the ‘B Grade Series’ with 135 points from Ashley Fleming on 112 and Steve Chittendon on 85 points. In the ‘C Grade Series’ Mike Howden leads on 126 points from Neil Fraser on 108 and Alex Scaglioni and Anton Jones tied on 93 points.
In the Hughes Supersport Championship Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) got his day off to the best possible start with a win in the first race from Leigh Boujos (JB Racing Yamaha R6) and Scott McCue (BPR Suzuki GSX-R600). In the second race things didn’t quite go to plan for the flying South African Van Vuuren as he had an excursion into the sand-trap in the basin along with JB Racing Tim Boujos forcing both to retire after six laps.
The race was won by McCue with Ray Tschorn (Vision Concrete Suzuki GSX-R600) and Leigh Boujos third.
The final race and with both Van Vuuren and Tim Boujos back in the field it was time to try and make up for some lost points. Tschorn took the win after the seven lap journey with Van Vuuren second and Tommy King (Yamaha R6) third. Livio Zampieri (Kawasaki ZX-6) made a steady return to racing following his dramatic high-side during the ASBK round which left him with several broken ribs.
Ray Tschorn took the round win with 62 points followed by Scott McCue on 55 and Leigh Boujos on 53 points. The Championship top three placings are Livio Zampieri on 104 points, Thyron Van Vuuren on 103 and Ray Tschorn on 98 points tied with Leigh Boujos. In the ‘B Grade Series Livio Zampieri leads with 113 points from Thyron Van Vuuren on 108 and Leigh Boujos on 107 points. In the ‘C Grade Series Ray Tschorn leads with 123 points followed by Rhys Clay on 107 and David Carroll on 86 points.
The Fastline GP Racing 125GP State Championship veteran racer Colin Boujos (JB Racing Aprilia RS 125) absolutely blitzed the first race with an all the way win by 20 seconds over second placed Dave Noblett (Honda RS 125) and David Manson (Fastline Honda RS 125) in third place. The second race saw Dave Doughty (Fastline Honda RS 125) take the win by 8 seconds from Boujos with Noblett in third place.
The final race of the day saw Doughty take his second win with Jack Twisse (One 2 One Honda RS 125) taking the runner-up spot with Noblett taking the final podium place. Noblett topped the day with 56 points from Twisse on 53 and Manson on 51 points. In the championship Doughty leads with 108 points from Manson on 107 and Twisse third on 102 points.
The State Sidecar Championship saw Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman take their second consecutive clean sweep to lead the Championship with 100 points. In the first race Des Harvey/Dirk Jeal, filling in for the “holidaying” Gary Cushnahan was second and Mickey Robbins/Karen Dore were third. Defending champions Murray Stronach/Joanne Thompson had a day to forget finishing both races in fifth place.
The second race saw newcomers Eamon Mulholland/James Sheahan take second place with Robbins/Dore making up the podium. Joyce/Blackman lead the championship from Des Harvey/Gary Cushnahan/Dirk Jeal and Mickey Robbins/ Karen Dore.
The Helmet House Production 300 Series saw race 1 get underway and within 2 laps it was pouring with rain and Daniel Wilson (MWR Ninja 250R) held his nerve and took the win from early leader Tim Boujos (JB Racing Ninja 300) with Lachlan Keogh (JB Racing Ninja 250R) taking third place. In the second race Boujos won from Keogh with Michelle Marais (SP Racing Ninja 300) with Wilson coming home in fourth place. Boujos won the day with 45 points and also leads the Series on 95 points.
Wilson was second on the day with 42 points and Keogh was third on 38 points. Second in the Series overall is Marais with 74 points and Lachlan Hickey is third on 64 points.
The Chain Reaction Clubman 1000 saw three different winners on the day with Sean McHale winning race 1, Tim de Bruyn taking out the second and Andrew Eccles winning the final race. Sam Kelham, Donsy Nel and Daniel Rignall shared the minor podium places. Eccles finished the day on 62 points from Nel on 50 and McHale on 45 points.
In the Cully’s Yamaha Clubman 600 Matt Price (Honda CBR 600) took the win in race 1 and Eddie Kirrane (Suzuki GSX-R 600) won races 2 and 3. Graham Jeanes, Ben Shingler, James Smith and Scott McCue shared the minor podium places. Eddie Kirrane finished the day on 58 points with Price second on 56 and Shingler third on 55 points.
Round three will be run on 12th July with practice from 8.40am and the first race at approximately 10.40am.
Here’s hoping for some slightly more pleasant weather for everyone concerned!!
The 2015 Weld West State Road Racing Championships Round 3
Just three weeks after the second round which was run in the worst conditions imaginable Round 3 was held on the 12th July at Barbagallo Raceway in near perfect conditions and the leading riders in all classes made the most of the conditions leading into the winter break.
In the Weld West Superbike Championship Cameron Stronach (Holdfast Kawasaki ZX-10) went into the round with a slender 7 point lead over Ralph Mammoliti (Jimmal Bolts Kawasaki ZX -10) but with Mammoliti having to withdraw from this round the day was Stronach’s to take advantage and dramatically increase his championship lead and believe me he didn’t disappoint.
In the first race older brother Ben Stronach (Northside Timber Flooring Kawasaki ZX-10) got a dream start and led the race early. Steve Chittendon (Rockingham Power Sports Honda CBR 1000) crashed out of the race at Turn 7 at the end of the first lap breaking his collar-bone. By race end the younger Stronach had worked his way to the front with veteran Anthony McFadden (MCB Sports BMW S1000RR) also managing to get past Ben Stronach and that was the way they finished.
Race two and it was more of the same with the exception that Cameron Stronach led the entire race with the other two battling for the minor placings. The final race and once again the young Stronach showed everyone a clean pair of heels in recording his third straight victory, Adam Senior (Boreclean Suzuki GSX-R 1000) final had a race where things went right for him and he worked his way up into second position with Ben Stronach again taking the minor podium position.
McFadden crashed out of the race after four laps but was unhurt. Stronach after his three wins and 75 points took the round win, Senior was second with 54 and Ben Stronach was third with 54 points. Cameron Stronach leads the Championship with 204 points, second is brother Ben on 159 and third is McFadden on 150 points. Mammoliti has slipped to sixth place.
In the ‘B’ Grade Series Chris Brown leads with 193 points from Ashley Fleming on 157 and Adam Chambers with 143 points. In the ‘C’ Grade Mike Howden leads the way with 189 points, second is Neil Fraser with 156 and third is Alex Scaglioni with 136 points.
The Hughes Supersport Championship Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) dominated all three races with comfortable margins to take maximum points from the day and take over the Championship lead.
In the first race the Boujos brothers Leigh and Tim (JB Racing Yamaha R6) gave it their all in the chase for the lead finishing in second and third respectively. In the second race Van Vuuren again won comfortably with Livio Zampieri (Kawasaki ZX-6) and Sam Clarke (RC Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) who was making his return to racing following ankle surgery finishing second and third respectively.
The final race was a repeat of the second with Van Vuuren stamping his authority over the field making it three consecutive race wins and maximum 75 points for his hard day at the office. Zampieri finished on 55 points and Tim Boujos was third on the day with 52 points. As far as the Championship is concerned Van Vuuren takes the lead with 178 points Zampieri slips to second on 159 and Ray Tschorn rounds out the top three with 146 points. In the ‘B’ Grade Series Van Vuuren leads Zampieri and Leigh Boujos, whilst in the ‘C’ Grade Series Tschorn leads from Rhys Clay and David Carroll in third place.
The Fastline 125 GP Championship saw Honda’s dominate the field with the top five in each of the three races all from that Japanese manufacturer. David Doughty (Fastline Honda RS 125) won all three races but it wasn’t all plain sailing and as the day progressed he was made to work harder and harder for his wins. In the first race he won by 12 seconds from David Manson (Fastline Honda RS 125) with Dave Noblett (Honda RS 125) third.
The second race was a carbon copy of the first but the winning margin was reduced to just 5 seconds. The final race again saw Doughty win from fast rising youngster Nicholas Hopkins (H.T. Racing Honda RS 125) and this time the margin was a mere 3 seconds and Noblett took the final podium place once again. Doughty won the round with 75 points from Hopkins on 54 and Noblett on 54 points. Doughty leads the championship on 183 points from Noblett who is tied with Jack Twisse (One 2 One Honda RS 125) on 151points.
The Helmet House 300 Production Series incorporating the 250 Production Series produced some of the best racing with several younger riders taking it up to the more established riders. Tim Boujos (JB Racing Kawasaki Ninja 300) and Michelle Marais (SP Racing Kawasaki Ninja 300) dominated both races with Boujos taking two vital wins by just 2 seconds in each case. John Quinn (Kawasaki Ninja 300) was third in the first race with young gun Lachlan Hickey JB Racing Kawasaki Ninja 250) continuing his stellar season showing just what he is made of and it won’t surprise if he upstages some of the more experienced riders before season’s end.
Boujos won the round with his two wins from Marais on 40 points and Hickey on 34 points. Boujos 145 points has increased his Series lead to 31 points ahead of Marais with Hickey on 98 points. In the 250 Series Hickey leads on 124 points from Hayley Green on 105 and Joel Hunter on 101 points.
The Sidecars made two appearances on the day but with only three outfits they weren’t racing for Championship points and ran purely for fun with Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman the dominant pairing.
Hopefully with the extended break before the fourth round we can muster some more numbers.
In the Cully’s Yamaha Clubman 600 Matt Price (Joondalup Carpet Court Honda CBR 600) was the rider who dominated the day with wins in the first two races and a second place in the last race.
Scott McCue (BPR Suzuki GSX-R 600) was second in the first race, then he had a DNF in the second before coming back to finish sixth in the final race. Ben Shingler (Suzuki GSX-R 600) was third. In the second race Mark Crittenden (Triumph Daytona 675) was second with Scott Fraser (Yamaha R6) third. Crittenden won the final race from Price with Fraser third.
In the Chain reaction Clubman 1000 was reduced to just two races instead of the normal three following an accident in the previous race which left the officials making the decision to cancel the final race. In the first race Andrew Eccles (SKB Racing Suzuki GSX-R 1000) took out the six lap journey by 2 seconds from Daniel Rignall (Carpet Liquidators Honda CBR 1000) and Tim De Bruyn (Kawasaki ZX-10). In the second race De Bruyn won from Brian Dick (Champions Ride Days Honda CBR 1000) with Rignall taking third place.
The fourth round will be held on 30th August, with practice until 10.30 am and racing from 10.45am.
The 2015 Weld West State Road Racing Championships Round 4
The weather forecast was at best pretty dismal for the penultimate round of the Weld West State Road Racing Championship that was held on the 30th August, but thankfully the Weather Bureau got it completely wrong and the day could not have been better for racing.
The leaders going into that penultimate round all came away with increased leads and set up the final round which will be a classic with all championships up for grabs so make a note to be trackside on 30th October – 1st November to acknowledge your 2015 Champions.
In the Weld West Superbike Championship Cameron Stronach reverted to his own BMW bike having ridden Frank Gibbins Kawasaki for the first three rounds after his bike suffered a serious engine failure just prior to the first round of the season. Cameron Stronach (Holdfast BMW S 1000RR) continued where he left off at the end of Round 3 with another win. The race was stopped after a racing incident at Turn 1 between Mark Gill and Glenn Lowe saw the pair end up at high speed in the sand trap. Luckily the pair weren’t seriously injured but their day was done. Second home was Cameron’s elder brother Ben Stronach (Northside Timber Flooring Kawasaki ZX-10) with Adam Chambers (HTR Kawasaki ZX-10) third. Adam Senior (Boreclean Suzuki GSX-R 1000) was fourth with Anthony McFadden (McB Sports BMW S 1000RR) rounding out the top five.
The second race looked to be going much the same for the first two laps and then Ben Stronach went missing, a loose gear lever ending his race. McFadden joined Cameron Stronach at the front and the pair fought it out with McFadden taking the win from Stronach with Senior taking the minor podium place. Chambers was fourth and Ashley Fleming (Rick Gill Motorcycles Suzuki GSX-R 1000) rounded out the top five.
The younger Stronach was back to his best in the third and final race of the day taking the win from Senior and McFadden after the eight laps. Ben Stronach had to start from the rear of grid following his DNF and did an excellent job getting into fourth place; Fleming was fifth with Chambers rounding out the top six. Cameron Stronach won the round with 70 points, second was McFadden with 59 and Senior was third with 55 points.
The Championship standings are first Cameron Stronach 274 points, second Anthony McFadden on 209, third Ben Stronach on 196, Chris Brown on 186 and Senior rounds out the top five on 183 points. Chris Brown leads the “B Grade Series” with 247 from Ashley Fleming on 222 and Adam Chambers 213 points. In the “C Grade Series” Tim Simmons narrowly leads the way with 247 points from Mike Howden on 243 and Neil Fraser on 198 points.
In the Hughes WA Supersport Championship consistency was the name of the game and in each of the three races the top five riders figured every time. Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) won the first and the third race and finished second in the second race.
In the first race Livio Zampieri (Kawasaki ZX-6) was second just .3 of a second behind with Sam Clarke (RC Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) third, fourth was Ray Tschorn (Vision Concrete Constructions Triumph Daytona 675) with Tim Boujos (JB Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) rounding out the top five.
In the second race Clarke went from third in the previous race to first with Van Vuuren just .3 of a second behind, Zampieri slipped back to third with fourth and fifth, Tschorn and Boujos remaining the same. So down to the final race and Van Vuuren wasn’t to be denied coming home at the end of the 8 lap journey in first place with Zampieri hard on his heels with Clarke once again back in third place.
Boujos got the better of Tschorn moving up to fourth with the Triumph mounted rider in fifth place. Vann Vuuren won the day with 70 points from Clarke on 61 and Zampieri on 58 points.
What does the leader board look like after four rounds? Van Vuuren leads on 248 points, Zampieri is second with 217, third is Tschorn on 196, fourth is Leigh Boujos on 170, fifth is Rhys Clay on 151 and sixth is Tim Boujos on 150 points.
Despite his strong showing in this round Clarke is well out of contention with 110 points having missed the first two rounds of the season following ankle surgery. Tschorn leads the “C Grade” division from Clay and David Carroll. The final round will be action all the way with any of the top four in with a chance if the cards fall the right way, time will tell, be there to witness some of the hardest chargers going around.
In the Fastline 125GP Championship David Doughty (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) made a clean sweep of the three races. In the first race Dave Noblett (Honda RS 125) was second with fast finishing Sam Clarke (RC Racing Honda RS 125) third.
In the second race Clarke failed to finish with Doughty again winning, Noblett was second and David Manson (Fastline GP Racing Honda RS 125) was third. In the final race it was the same trio in the same order as race two that greeted the chequered flag. Doughty won the round with 75 points from Noblett with 60 and Manson scored 53 points.
As far as the Championship is concerned Doughty leads with 258 points, second is Noblett on 211, third is Manson on 200, fourth is Colin Boujos on 172 with Jack Twisse rounding out the top five on 165 points.
The Sidecars returned to championship racing with two races at round four and once again they were dominated by Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman with two convincing wins.
In the first race they won by 14 seconds from Murray Stronach/Joanne Thompson with Graeme Evan/ Eamon Mulholland in third place. In the second race they won by 12 seconds from Evans/Mulholland with Stronach/Thompson in third place.
The Championship standings after their third championship round is Joyce/Blackman 150 points, second is Des Harvey/ Gary Cushnahan – Dirk Jeal on 106 and Stronach/Thompson third on 105 points. The final round will be an absolute cracker with the top three teams mathematically capable of winning the 2015 title.
The Helmet House Production 300 Series saw one winner on the day and that was Tim Boujos (JB Racing Kawasaki Ninja 300). He won the first race after a good tussle with Michelle Marais (SP Racing Kawasaki Ninja 300) by just over 3 seconds.
It might have been closer but Michelle’s #1 bike was in transit for the ASBK round in Tasmania. Third after the 5 lap journey was John Quinn (Kawasaki Ninja 300). The first 250cc machine home was Lachlan Hickey (JB Racing Kawasaki Ninja 250) in fifth place outright.
In the second race Boujos won quite comfortably by 7 seconds from Michael King (www.brandsense.com.au Kawasaki Ninja 300) with Marais finishing in third place a further three seconds back. Hickey was again the first 250cc machine home in fifth place.
Boujos won the round taking 50 valuable points from Marais with 38 and King on 37 points. As far as the Series goes Boujos has 195 points with Marais on 152 and Hickey on 130 points.
That is an outstanding effort by the young Hickey in his first year on 250cc machine and believe me this kid has a great future in the sport. In the 250 Production division Hickey won the round with 50 points, from Joel Hunter on 40 with Hayley Green on 34 points. Hickey leads the 250 Series with 174 points from Hunter on 141 and in third place is Green on 139 points. This Series will go down to the final race in both divisions.
The Cully’s Yamaha Clubman 600 saw Mark Crittenden ((Triumph Daytona 675) win all three races quite comfortably. In the first race Ben Shingler (Suzuki GSX-R 600) came home in second place with Scott McCue (BPR Suzuki GSX-R 600) third. In the second race the same three were again the placegetters with McCue taking second place with Shingler third. In the final race there was a repeat of the first race with Shingler getting the better of McCue. Crittenden scored 75 points for his day’s work with Shingler picking up 58 and McCue 56 points.
The Chain Reaction Clubman 1000 saw two different winners over the three races, with Sam Kelham (Jackson Roofing Kawasaki ZX-10) taking the chequered flag in the first two races along with a second place in the final race to score his maiden Superbike win in the Clubman Series.
In the first race Noel Moore (Yamaha R1) came home in second place with Brian Dick (Champions Ride Days Honda CBR 1000RR) in third position.
The second race saw the second and third placed riders in race one swap places with Dick taking second from Moore.
In the final race Dick got the better of Kelham by just 1.3 seconds with Moore grabbing the final podium place again. Kelham still managed to win the round with 70 points from Dick on 63 and Moore on 56 points.
The final Round of the 2015 season will be a two day affair on 30th October – 1st November.
The 2015 Weld West State Road Racing Championships Final Wrap
Well the final two day round of the 2015 Weld West State Road Racing Championships have been run and won and with the dust, or should that be ‘Burn-Out Smoke’ having settled it is time to write the final wrap-up for the year.
The Championship classes competed on the Sunday with three races for each class whilst the support classes benefitted with three on Saturday and two each on Sunday
The Weld West Superbike Championship saw Cameron Stronach (Holdfast/Northside Timber Flooring BMW S 1000RR) head into the final round with a 65 point advantage over his nearest rival Anthony McFadden (McB Sports BMW S 1000RR) the next closest was Cameron’s elder brother Ben Stronach (Northside Timber Flooring/ Holdfast/Bell Kawasaki ZX-10) who was 78 points behind his brother.
None of that seemed to matter when the lights went out for the first race. The pace was on from the start with the top three joined by Adam Senior (Boreclean Suzuki GSX-R1000) and Adam Chambers (H.T.Racing Kawasaki ZX-10).
The five of them put on a great display of close racing with the eventual winner Ben Stronach dipping into the 56 second mark with a 56.9690 on lap 2, Cameron was second with Senior finishing third just ahead of McFadden.
The second race saw the same five riders at the front but after the 8 lap journey it was Cameron Stronach who crossed the line ahead of Senior and brother Ben, with McFadden and then Chambers rounding out the top five.
The final race of the season and the Stronach boys made it a one/two at the front with McFadden in third, Senior was fourth with Chambers fifth and Daniel Chadbund (Up n At IT Roof Carpentry Yamaha R1) rounding out the top six.
Ben Stronach won the day with 68 points from Cameron Stronach on 65 and Senior on 55 points. As far as the Championship went Cameron Stronach is the 2015 Weld West State Superbike Champion with 339 points, second Ben Stronach on 264, third McFadden on 261, fourth Senior on 238, fifth Chris Brown on 227 and rounding out the top six Chambers on 197 points.
In the Hughes Supersport Championship Sam Clarke (Kawasaki ZX-6) won all three races after some excellent racing in each event. Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) was right on his rear wheel, but with a championship at stake he was never going to push the issue to the extreme and wisely settled for three strong second places. Third in race one was Leigh Boujos (JB Racing Yamaha R6), with younger brother Tim (JB Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) in fourth place.
In the second race Livio Zampieri (Kawasaki ZX-6) took the minor podium place, Leigh Boujos was fourth with Tommy King (Yamaha R6) fifth and Tim Boujos was fifth.

Mark Laing-Hughes (Fastline GP Racing Yamaha TZ 125) took second place in the first race.

The WA Sidecar Championship was settled on just three rounds after two of the five outfits were sidelined.
First to go was the outfit of Murray Stronach with Steve Marshall in the chair they had a problem with the chair wheel and were missing for a good part of the day whilst they repaired the machine.
Next to go were Des Harvey/ Gary Cushnahan when their oufit caught fire on the start/finish straight putting them out for the remainder of the day.
But the worst was yet to come with Jero Joyce/Corey Blackman flipping the outfit at the left-hander. Corey was hurled from the outfit and suffered some serious leg, ankle, wrist and pelvis injuries whilst Jero who was initially trapped in the outfit escaped unscathed.
So with only three outfits running the championship was called after three rounds with Joyce/Blackman winning with 150 points, second were Harvey/Cushnahan with 106 and third were Stronach/Thompson on 105 points.

The Juniors who were all on Honda CBR 150’s had three races on Saturday afternoon and another two on Sunday and four riders stood out above the rest with Jonah Sita and Bronson Pickett (Steve’s Motorcycles), Scott Topping (Seeking Sponsors) and Callum O’Brien (registeredpainters.com).
These four youngsters featured at the front of the field in all the races over the two days. Bronson Pickett is the son of former sidecar competitor Mark Pickett and he looks to have all the attributes that made his father a fierce competitor in the sidecars. I’m sure he is not far away from his debut win. Meeting points saw Sita with a perfect score of 125 points, second was Pickett on 97, third was Topping on 91 and O’Brien was fourth on 85 points.
