After picking up a new bike, it was about time Simon got some new riding gear. He settled on an Argon Descent Stealth Jacket from Mcleod's Accessories, check out what he thought...

Being an old bloke means you do old bloke things, like owning a leather jacket that you think is still new until your missus tells you you bought it in 1998. So, having bought a new bike recently, I thought maybe I should treat myself to a new Argon Descent jacket as well…

As you may have guessed from another review I’ve done recently, I had my eye on the Argon gear that Mcleod’s is distributing and their new Argon Descent Jacket really grabbed me. I saw one at my local Motorcycle Accessory Shop in Nerang and the style and quality feel of the leather made it stand out. Yet again, their size large was a perfect fit for me, so that was it, I was having one.

The large was a perfect fit for Simon, the sizing seems to run small so make sure you go and try one on first!

The large was a perfect fit for Simon, the sizing of the Argon gear has so far been accurate, which is great these days.

The fit is snug like a quality motorcycle jacket should be so there are no saggy areas anywhere and it feels just like it should do; a supple, second skin of armour. This snug fit does mean that the old Fitbit or Apple Watch needs to be taken off as the cuffs are too close fitting for a watch – but who needs one of them when riding anyway!

There is a draw strap on each side of the bottom hem which allows for bringing it in nice and tight or giving a bit of room should you need to wear extra layers underneath in the cold, although I doubt if you’ll need that with the removable liner keeping things nice and toasty in there anyway.

Talking of which, both the liner and the jacket itself have some cool neoprene phone pockets to keep your phone dry as well as protected, but I have to admit, getting your phone into them if you are right handed is slightly tricky as the pockets are on the right side, so you need to use your left hand to get your phone into a tight neoprene pocket (and sometimes I wonder if my left hand belongs to someone else as its pretty crap and fiddly stuff), so avoid having a big-ass phone or become left handed.

Luckily though, they also included another dedicated waterproof phone pocket on the left hand side, which suited me better and worked a treat in the wet. The liner also has a sewn in name tag just in case they find me in a pub not knowing who I am, which, let’s face it, can happen to the best of us!

After a long day of riding. Simon said "I can definitely say this jacket ticks the boxes for a good all rounder."

After a full day ride out with the guys around Northern NSW ranges I got the benefit of the liner in the cool morning tree shade and the flow through air design after taking it out in the summer arvo heat and I can definitely say this jacket ticks the boxes for a good all rounder. You can pick one up now for an RRP of $499.95 from your local stockist. I’ll touch base again in a year or so and let you know how the jacket is wearing over the long term.
