Richard tests out the Five GT2 WP (WaterProof) touring gloves for the full Phillip Island MotoGP pilgrimage. Review: Richard Collins

I have been a long time fan of Five gloves now, ever since discovering them about five years ago for road/track use, with a set of all weather touring gloves the logical step, especially with a trip down to Phillip Island on the cards with uncertain weather.

The Five GT2 WP  is a ‘Grand Touring’ glove, with a Cordura stretch topside, leather palm, built-in PU knuckle and finger shell protection. This glove also features a double closure system with an elastic loop so it can be positioned over or under a jacket.

These GT2 WP gloves were destined for the long ride to Philip Island and had a full season of winter use. Construction is good and the Velcro wrist fastenings and an elasticated Velcro strip to tighten the gloves over jacket sleeves work well and ensure the gloves stay in place but are easily removed.

Palm protection is reasonable, with extra protection right where you would put your hand in the event of a spill. Finger protection feels minimal with the gloves quite light to wear. Additional inside glove protection is on the little and ring fingers only. Knuckle protection looks OK as well, with hidden internal knuckle armour.

Back to the main purpose – these gloves kept my hands very warm in cold weather and are comfortable to wear, in that they are not too thick on the palm or inside of the fingers, ensuring no bunching up under the palm.

A minor downside was that the inner liner can slip out of place a tiny bit when removing the gloves, meaning it’s not always a matter of just slipping the gloves on and off, instead sometimes needing to work a finger or two to get the liner seated.

That is just my impatience, so now I hold the fingers with the other hand when removing them and all is good and certainly not a deal killer.

I wore these for all of Winter and aside from the liner loosening up a little they have been great and show no signs of excessive wear. I will definitely get another Winter out of them. Great gloves for $199.95 RRP.
