Kyoko started wearing a new summer set of kit in January, with the IXON Ilana EVO jacket, IXON RS Rise Air ladies gloves and a pair of Bull-It ladies Fury V black jeggings. She wore them over the balance of summer and autumn. Check out her review on the gear…

IXON ILANA EVO THREE-IN-ONE LADIES JACKET

I was lucky enough to score the new IXON Ilana Evo jacket to start my riding for 2023. Sad to admit that I’m usually a size 14/L (haha) so I ordered a size L… The shoulders and the length fitted fine but unfortunately, I found that the design of the arms was too tight on my upper arms and that was restricting my arm movements. I had chosen off the fitment guide, not trying on in store, as the jacket was new and not available to the public at the time, so it was a bit of an educated guess.

I knew the tightness would have made my riding uncomfortable, hence I changed it to a size XL. The XL felt a little bigger than expected, although the arm fittings are much better but still I could feel the tightness from the banding design on the outside. I would normally not need an XL jacket, but the design of the arms dictated that I had to, so I had to compromise in other areas where it is a bit big.

Apart from that, I love the length, fitment and mostly this feminine design without it being too girly. I am a bit fussy with what I’d like to wear while riding, but this is by far one of my favourite designs I have ever seen here in Australia. I don’t like to look too girly, or too pinky and I just love this simple and stylish design made by IXON, it really looks good and is understated.

I have just come back from a ride. Beautiful sunny Melbourne weather, 22 degrees. I only wore a thin long-sleeve shirt under my jacket. I inserted the back protector from my other jacket, which I own (and it fitted perfectly into the back protector pocket), and took the thermal layer off. Zips are used for the layer attachment, and it is very easy to both attach and remove. It also has the red button attach points on the sleeves, which makes it very visible and easy to locate.

Velcro used on the wrists is very good quality, too. Riding in this weather today was perfect with just the two layers. The jacket is very breathable and never felt too hot or cold. And another highlight for me is that I usually have difficulties finding a jacket that comfortably fit my breasts, but Ilana Evo has extra room and does not completely squash my breasts while fully zipped!

The jacket comes with two outside pockets as well as one inside, which is waterproof. It also has a zip around the waist for the matching pants to attach. Shoulders and elbows are fitted with protection, which fits nicely onto my body and does not bother me while riding. A great jacket. RRP, $399.95.

IXON RS RISE AIR LADIES GLOVES

I have also been riding in the matching IXON RS Rise Air gloves, too, in size Ladies L. True to size, these breathable gloves came with touch screen compatible index finger, which is handy. These are short cuff gloves so I had the jacket sleeves over my gloves while riding most of the time and have now packed them away for winter. I will definitely be using them again all of next spring and summer.

Breathable, just like the jacket, they are perfect for warm to mild days. I really like that they have a nice sporty look with the shell protection for the knuckles, but the rest of the glove features mesh, which makes them flexible and comfortable. A really good casual warm weather glove. RRP, $99.95.

BULL-IT FURY V (regular) JEGGINGS

The pants I’ve been using this year are Bull-It FURY V (Regular) design stretch jeggings. These bike jeans are feminine and super stretchy and comfortable. They are high waisted, thankfully, and a skinny fit and no one will notice that these are riding pants. I have been looking for a pair of bike pants to ride to work in, a pair I can leave on and not have to get changed, and these are perfect.

In fact, I sometimes wear these on days that I am not planning to ride! The FURY V Jeggings came with CE approved knee armour, which you can slide into the pockets on the inside with a velcro closure. I personally think that these look good with heels, too! Great pants. RRP, $229.96.
