Kawasaki say the urban enjoyment factor is off the scale with its 17-inch wheels, 37mm upside-down fork, road-orientated suspension settings and a large 300mm semi-floating petal disc at the front gripped by a twin-piston caliper. The KLX230SM has ABS as a standard feature. The road-focussed suspension settings provide 204mm travel at the front and 168mm at the rear.

Combined with the 845mm seat height, a low 135kg wet weight and closely spaced ratios in the six-speed gearbox, the KLX230SM is the perfect commuting companion. If you want to share the experience with a pillion, there’s preload adjustment on the Uni Trak rear suspension, while a smaller rear sprocket means taller and more commuter-friendly gearing. The footpegs feature rubber inserts for added comfort.

The engine is the same tireless campaigner as found in the KLX230 range: a 233cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, four-stroke single, rated at 14kW/19.8Nm, but with ECU updates including a revised fuel map to offer improved throttle response in cold temperatures.

A compact LED headlight is the centrepiece of the KLX230SM’s sporty, aggressive front-end. The front fender also has sleek overtones, while the blacked-out engine, frame, swingarm and handlebar complete the eye-catching package.
